PORTLAND—Mayor Ted Wheeler joined protesters here on the front lines Wednesday night and was tear-gassed with the crowd, days after criticizing the Trump administration’s deployment of federal agents.
Videos and photographs of Mr. Wheeler posted on social media showed him wearing goggles and a surgical mask and coughing amid a cloud of gas.
Earlier Wednesday evening, Mr. Wheeler had navigated through a large crowd of protesters who were at times openly hostile toward him, shouting vulgarities and calling on him to resign. Then after climbing the steps of the Multnomah County Justice Center, Mr. Wheeler was handed a microphone by activists and addressed the crowd directly via a loudspeaker.
“The reason I am here tonight is to stand with you,” Mr. Wheeler told the crowd, who booed him at times during his speech. “So if they’re launching the tear gas against you, they’re launching the tear gas against me.”
But Portland activists have been critical of the mayor, who is also the city’s police commissioner, arguing the Portland Police Bureau has also been heavy-handed toward protesters.

Videos of the mayor showed him near the perimeter when tear gas was deployed and then later leaving the protest altogether, entering a nearby building as his security team scuffled with a few protesters.
At 12:32 a.m. local time Thursday morning, the Portland Police Bureau in a tweet had declared a riot outside the county justice center. The police said that those who didn’t disperse immediately could be subject to arrest, citation, tear gas or impact weapons.
The police said that people ignored the order, threw Molotov cocktails at the federal building and hundreds of other projectiles with multiple fires lighted.

Those that are able are already doing so. I don’t think the Dems planned it this way, but it’s a brilliant result for them. Drive urbanites to the suburbs, or other states, where they can turn red areas blue.
The Berniebots are getting their revenge on the Democrat Party after all. I guarantee that some top flight RATS in the DNC and in the donor class aren’t happy with the mayhem. Some of these fools still think they can fool some Americans into believing they’re a “centrist” party.

IMHO, the police are a bunch of chickens, failing to follow up on their threat. And that response just emboldens the rioters.

Wheeler is a Democrat. He will no doubt be honored at the upcoming Democtatic convention along with the other Democrat mayors of Seattle, New York, Chicago, LA and Atlanta. They should appear for a group photo with a burning city in the background.
If that Federal courthose had caught fire as the rioters intended, would the Portland fire department have been allowed to extinguish it?
This degenerate Wheeler joined the rioters who tried to blind Federal agents with lasers and burn a Federal courthouse with Molotov coctails. Too bad he didn’t have the courage to have himself photographed with a laser in one hand and a Molotov in the other.
He also thinks he will be spared after the revolution. History says otherwise.
Too bad the mayor had his security detail around him to protect him. They’re the ones that get punched and take the bottle hits all the while the mayor is protesting the nasty feds.
The Dems think they can control their “dogs.” They will be shocked when their pets turn on them, too.
I have posted several times that folks do not realize that they are not going to be in charge after the revolution. Oh well, I weary of all of this....
I cannot begin to imagine where all this is ultimately leading. Here in the heartland I'm seeing moving van after moving van bringing in this same liberal trash into my community.
