The mayor of Portland and the governor of Oregon might not like it, but President Trump has a winning issue with his federal law enforcement deployments.
The simple truth, one that Democratic politicians such as Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot need to grasp quickly, is that most people don't want to get shot dead. Their ignorance of that reality, willful or otherwise, reflects a quite stunning failure of political leadership.
The facts are clear. The chaos in Portland is a direct consequence of Mayor Ted Wheeler's appeasement of roving criminals. But rather than confront the destruction of private property and attacks on police officers and city residents, Wheeler is playing to the idiotic Twitter meme that the federal law enforcement officers are actually the Gestapo. In Chicago, Lightfoot is playing the same game.
Emboldened by the understandable reluctance of police officers to confront criminals, understandable in that Democratic mayors and prosecutors are out for badges, gangs are taking advantage of a security vacuum. Like the culprits, the victims are predominantly young black men. We are told that black lives matter, but only, it seems, when those lives are ended by police officers.
Trump has a winning issue....where the metal meets the meat, people want the police to protect them. It may not look nice and often isn't, but the deployment of federal law enforcement officers accomplishes two things. It shows that the federal government takes its duty of public security seriously, and it draws a striking contrast with politicians who would take the very opposite approach, defunding those who are needed to keep us safe.

Violations of sovereign state laws are to be dealt with by the state. A state’s failures do NOT justify unconstitutional federal acts.

Almost ALL “federal property” within the states are unconstitutional. Article I, Section 8, Clause 17 provides the conditions for the only constitutional allowance for federal property on state lands.
- No one is talking about DHS arresting for or prosecuting State crimes.

Most people writing on the subject assert that POTUS is using the Insurrection Act to justify sending forces where there has been a breakdown of civil authority. I think that he is trying to leverage that act to get the mayors & Governors to request the help of the Federal Government so that he does not have to use the act. POTUS is very cognizant of the primacy of State control within the State. OTOH there is a breakdown of law & order and he is duty bound to address that situation if the local authorities do not. This would imply that it was up to the PEOPLE of South Carolina to put down their insurrection in the Spring of 1861. What happens when the people in power there [Oregon, Washington] do not want to put it down? Do those who disagree just get crushed?

I think you mistake me. That is not surprising because we are discussing multifaceted issues in a superficial way.
I think that in the final analysis the people who are living in Chicago and other crime ridden hellholes need help. Not on a permanent basis but in a mop up operation that cuts the problem down to a size the locals can handle. What I am hoping is that this will be an education for traditionally democrat supporters who have been thrown under the bus, abandoned by their elected officials.
As long as there is a Constitutional justification for stepping in to rescue those communities I see it as long overdue. It is wrong to step aside and allow innocents to be slaughtered every weekend with the local authorities ignoring the crimes. That is not America, that is not equal justice. President Trump spent 3.5 years not using executive power as a way of circumventing the other branches of Government. He has been punctilious about respecting Congress & the Courts. Now he has begun to fight fire with fire in an effort to protect & defend the American people & our way of life.
Even now he tries every other means 1st. I am not sorry he is building the wall against all opposition by using every legal tool at his disposal. I am not sorry he is showing America that cities where the rule of law has been abandoned & corruption is a way of life can get a fresh start. I do not agree with your characterization. This is not the bloated federal Government acting. This is President Trump refusing to leave Americans in such desperate straits.
President Trump realizes he needs to get the country on a path towards prosperity, with a strong armed forces, a strong manufacturing sector, manufacturing essential items in USA and with trade deals that will allow us to prosper. POTUS wants all Americans to have the opportunity to work to make their dreams come true. He has been cutting regulations, cutting federal positions, breaking up bureaucracy for his entire term. I think your anger at the bloated central government is not allowing you to see that POTUS has the same end vision as you do and is moving towards it, unconventionally, using some sleight of hand to confuse the enemy but inexorably towards Government answerable to the people with limited Federal powers. His posture during COVID demonstrates that readily. Any amount of effort & funds to help the States but no move to attempt to utilize Central control and eliminate local choices.

Trump has been talking about sending federal law enforcement into Chicago ever since he was elected. This is no surprise and nothing new, just acting on a long standing warning.
POTUS hold his cards close to the chest and allows some ambiguity to give himself options. When the first suit is filed his legal team will be ready to layout the legal basis underpinning his actions.
