Surgeon General Jerome Adams begged Fox News' audience on Monday to wear face masks to help contain the spread of the coronavirus and to avoid thinking of the health measure as a violation of their rights.
Adams stressed that President Donald Trump has recently said he supports mask-wearing, despite his refusal to implement a federal mask mandate.
"I'm pleading with your viewers, I'm begging you, please understand that we are not trying to take away your freedoms when we say wear a face covering," Adams said during a "Fox and Friends" interview.
He went on, "We are not trying to take away your ability to go out when we say keep restaurant capacity under 50%. We are saying if we do these things, we can actually open and stay open. We can get back to school, to worship, to jobs. We can do this."

That is so much bovine scat.
We’ll just curtail big-time the amount of store/sales/vendor trips we make to the mask enforcement zones.
When the velocity of exchange sludges, watch for the 180.
And if a handful of ppl dont wear them, then the virus continues to spread and the lockdown will never end. Of course, there wont be 100% compliance, since there never is due to human nature, so nothing will change except the loss of freedom (to worship, to travel, to enjoy our regular activities) that we allow and endure.
That is somewhat different from my intended message.
But ok. :)
And I have worn a mask exactly 3 times. I dont have Covid. Therefore, masks dont make a bit of difference.
There are differing viewpoints, I agree.
And people never have watery eyes.
A friend who was in Europe on an extended trip when all this started came back to the US a couple weeks ago. She said the airline wouldnt let you wear an N95, that people that had one were given a surgical mask.
but makes just as much logical sense. association does not prove causality
Wear a warm, damp fiberous cloth so viruses can have a spa day, then be inhaded several times a minute. The sugeon general, huh.
Did he tell you this virus will be positive for any related strain. COVID has bilateral pneumonia associations?
Next up, he will tell us it doesn’t need a host, its transmitted via magical unicorn dust and you can stop it. If you just obey.
If all of this people had viral bilateral pneumonia, i would believe it.
You likely do not have COVID, just another virus in the family, but according to the fda, its covid positive, even when covid specific markers are negative.
Masks work.
Yep, they do. But youll never convince the anti-maskers, Im afraid. Best wishes.
“Wear masks for now. For real. They work, if people actually use them.”
For real what works is for you to stay 6 ft. away from me and me to stay 6 ft. away from you.
All wearing a mask does is forces me to touch my face dozens of times more than I would if not forced to wear one.
At the start we were told three things:
1. Social distance.
2. Don’t touch your face.
3. Wash your hands.
No mask: no reason to touch my face or even bring my disease-infected fingers anywhere NEAR my face.
Mask: Since I can’t wear for an extended period in this heat and humidity, it’s on-adjust-off-handle multiple times throughout a shopping run.
Which has increased my risk of Covid-19 exposure? Mask or no mask?
Obviously, even with proper social distancing, the mask has increased my risk. And I’m supposed to be okay with that, because my wearing a thin piece of cloth (we don’t hear about how only N95 masks can block the microscopic virus particles anymore, do we?) makes the Pandemic Panicked feel better.
All for show which would be benignly idiotic except for the Good Little Comrade Or Else sinister aspect of it.
My gaydar goes off big time with this guy.
We could use the same rules of masks and social distancing to cure hiv. Should we enforce it? Why not?
Repeating a fallacy over & over says a lot about a person....
Not all N95s have the valve for exhalation. A person who is trying to protect others should get the ones that don’t.
LOL.. then you get the worst of both worlds. People who are trying to protect others should stay at home if they are sick.
Healthy people shouldn’t wear masks unless they are in direct contact with sick people.
And, there are not enough medical-grade masks for the general public. So, what is your point?
Also keep in mind, many people can't wear negative pressure masks like N95's or 99's, such as those with asthma or COPD. Many of those same folks also have a difficult time with just the cloth or paper masks.
Of course they should stay home if they are sick. (Not that everyone does, unfortunately.) The idea though is that there is a short time before one is aware he is sick where he can infect others. But I doubt I’ll change your mind. This has become a politicized issue.
