New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) is leading a campaign urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) to implement a tax on the state’s billionaires.
A video released Thursday featuring progressives like Ocasio-Cortez and state Sen. Jessica Ramos (D), who sponsored a bill in 2018 that would tax the unrealized capital gains of the state’s 119 billionaires, argues for a new tax on the high-income residents.
“There’s no reason why working families in New York state, one of the richest states in this country, should be in so much need of basic necessities, when we have the largest concentration of billionaires in the entire world,” Ramos says in the video.
“Governor Cuomo, we need you to pass a billionaires’ tax, in order to make sure that we’re providing for our working families,” Ocasio-Cortez says. “It’s time to stop protecting billionaires, and it’s time to start working for working families.”
Ocasio-Cortez has said Ramos's bill would provide “much deserved economic relief” to New Yorkers, particularly undocumented workers who do not receive federal relief and “who have been at the forefront of the crisis as essential workers,” The New York Times reported Thursday.

Tax NY Billionaires is a brilliant idea if your goal is to have no billionaires in NY.
I don’t get it.
Regarding the “billionaires”, aren’t they already paying very high marginal income tax rates, on their high incomes? In other words, they are already paying at a higher rate than others, on their high incomes.
So is the thinking that they need to be taxed again, or taxed at an even higher rate?
What about resistance, when “billionaires” leave the state, and make their legal residence elsewhere?
In today’s world, those who fight with one hand tied behind their back are doomed. The principled fighters will lose.
Now with that being said, understand that the vast majority of billionaires hate you and fund your destruction.
As such, I’m not against taxing the he!! out of those people.
IIRC, even the very pro-MD writer Tom Clancy pulled up stakes at that point.

Today it’s billionaires for the Wealth Tax. Tomorrow it’s millionaires. On Saturday it will be any family making over $100,000/year. Then on Sunday it will be any family making over $50,000/year.

Since when is taxing the rich to oblivion (i.e., stealing their wealth) "providing for working families"?
I hate and detest Marxists and their populist calls to destroy one class for the benefit of another.
It would be more fair to kick the rich out of their houses and move 30 families into their old homes.
Robin Hood represented the middle class. He despised the statists, the elites.
