Walmart to require face coverings in stores across the country
Washington Examiner ^ | JUly 15,2020 | Mica Soellner

Walmart will require face coverings in all of its stores across the country starting on July 20.

Mandatory masks for customers will be enforced by employees upon entrances at more than 5,000 Walmart and Sam's Club stores, the company announced on Wednesday.

"As the number of confirmed cases has spiked in communities across the country recently, so too have the number and types of face covering mandates being implemented," wrote the retailer's Chief Operating Officer Dacona Smith in a blog post. "Currently about 65 percent of our more than 5,000 stores and clubs are located in areas where there is some form of government mandate on face coverings. To help bring consistency across stores and clubs, we will require all shoppers to wear a face covering starting Monday, July 20. This will give us time to inform customers and members of the changes, post signage and train associates on the new protocols."

The blog post also mentioned that stores will now have a single entrance, and Sam's Club associates will "politely" remind members "of our requirement to wear a face covering when shopping with us. Complimentary masks will be provided if the member doesn’t have one. Or members can purchase masks in the club."

The company has already taken other measures to help protect public health, including using markers to indicate 6 feet of social distancing for customers and increasing sanitizing and cleaning efforts.

Cases of the coronavirus have increased across the country, with more than 3 million people in the United States infected by the virus, and nearly 140,000 people have died.

Why “ridiculous?”

All of the arguments for mandatory mask use could (and will) be made for mandatory vaccines (or proof of vaccination).

Coward. Get lost. You’re no American. You cower in fear far too much and far too fast.

What makes a mask so attractive that you act irrationally about having to wear one??

You seriously need to take a microbiology course before proclaiming the obedience mask work.

Hell, Sunshine, even the box the masks come in state they are not effective against a virus

PhD Chemist. Background in biowarfare research. Said research involved capturing bioaerosols for analysis. Technology currently in use nationwide by DOD. The tech works for spores, bacteria, AND VIRUSES.

I understand filtration of bioaerosols quite well.

Trying to slow the spread only slows the spread. The virus is out in the world so we need it to make its run and get our immunity going. Like the other viral nuisances like colds and flu...

1. Something that has a chance to kill you or cause permanent organ damage is not just a "nuisance".

2. We don't have the hospital capacity to handle massive numbers of people getting the virus at the same time.

3. There are reports by people treating the virus that immununty to covid after getting it may only last a few months. Most people calling for a "herd immunity" approach are not doctors, immunologists, or virus experts.

4. Even with the shutdowns, the virus has already killed over 140,000 Americans. How many do you think it would kill if we just let it run wild? You're OK with that?

5. Would you rather get immunity to smallpox or polio from getting one of these diseases or from a vaccine?

BS. Don't lie to us, we're not that gullible.

You're an idiot who claims a mask protects you from a virus and thinks everyone else should wear a mask. No chemist would ever say that. If your mask protects you then I don't need to wear one.

Being asked to pin a yellow star to your clothing was also a minor inconvenience.

Obviously not the same thing for a huge number of reasons. To start with, everyone is being asked to wear a mask and it has genuine health benefits. If only Republicans were asked to wear a mask just to identify themselves, then it might have some similarity.

Totalitarianism takes over your life one minor inconvenience at a time.

We have to accept all sorts of compromises just to live in a society, but especially in times of national emergency. Not all of these are creeping totalitarianism. It's an inconvenience for dog owners that they have to pick up after their dog, but it improves life for everyone else.

It's more inconvenient to be in the hospital because you can't breathe than it is to wear a mask.

When you go in a store, wouldn't you like to reduce the chance that you breathe in the virus? Wouldn't you prefer that other people were at least trying not to spread the virus to you?

walk out and leave the full cart

Especially with meats and ice cream and milk and other perishables that will keep the mask-zealots-in-training too busy to hassle and make demands of the customers. Yeah, I know the mask zealots "are just following orders" and I'm a b@stard -- probably a lot worse in the eyes of mask enthusiasts -- for suggesting it, but having a little "fun" with the mask zealots seems a better response than arguing with them ... it's a milder form of protest which, come to think of it, is even better than wearing a mask as protestors are proven to be immune from the virus germs.

Nope. But I'm not a name-calling SOB, either..unless the other party starts it. You, OTOH, have been a name-calling SOB forever, and henceforth anything with the handle "CodeTurd" in it will be ignored.

Same thing. Immunity? They’re already talking boosters

Same thing.

Smallpox vaccine does not contain smallpox virus.
Polio vaccine contains an inactive or weakened form of polio virus.
Obviously neither of these vaccinations is the same as getting a disease that can kill you or leave you with permanent scarring or paralysis.

They’re already talking boosters

Better to have immunity that lasts a few years and stops the spread through the population than none at all. Smallpox has been eliminated worldwide and polio has been eliminated in much of the world because of vaccines.

Good point. Additional proof that there’s not much thinking going on when it comes to the Wuhan Chinese virus.

Obviously not the same thing for a huge number of reasons. Not a perfect analogy but similar enough. Both are driven from politics. COVID insanity would not be taking place if it wasn't an election year. SARS, Ebola, Swine flu had a higher death rate, yet no such restriction were in place because it wasn't an election year. It's obvious scare mongering.

"wear a mask and it has genuine health benefits" There are numerous studies that refute that statement. If I'm not mistaken, someone linked them on this thread yesterday.

When you go in a store, wouldn't you like to reduce the chance that you breathe in the virus? Wouldn't you prefer that other people were at least trying not to spread the virus to you?

No, I wouldn't like to reduce my chance. I'd like to get it, produce antibodies and create herd immunity and have all this nonsense go away. I breathe in thousands of viruses everyday. One that has a 95% recovery rate doesn't worry me in the least. I also eat a strict diet of non-processed foods and take tinctures to keep my immune system healthy. I've been vaccinated for the flu once and it made me sick for 2 days. That was 25 years ago. I've had the flu once since then. (My husband also had the flu that year although he had been vaccinated due to work.) After seeing what goes on at my husband's job at a hospital, I'm rather skeptical of the medical "experts." Seems like there is a lot of vaccine and pill pushing for profit.

If my yellow star analogy isn't exact, neither is your dog poop example. If I don't want to pick up dog poop, then I can choose not to own a dog. I cannot opt out of public contact (although I've reduced it to once a week or less).
