They actually have masks with a clear plastic inset for these people.

Tiny little problem. Nobody wears them.

My husband is mostly deaf and lip reads. It would do no good for him to wear a mask with an insert as it is not his lips that he reads.

In fact like me he does not wear a mask at all.

I would think that the plastic insert would make it twice as hard to breathe than with a regular mask.

The only time I wear a mask is for hour-long physical therapy twice a week. I can hardly breathe in it, even though the therapy isn’t exactly strenuous. I can’t imagine a layer of plastic instead of fabric.
