There has been discussion of “functional illiterates” for quite a long time. I think we have a new category, one which I have not seen discussed at all. I’m referring to people who are literate and who can write but who cannot write clearly or correctly and who cannot think in any sort of focused, cogent way. These people can put words on the page, but the end result is always massive confusion. It’s worse than being functionally illiterate, in my opinion.

One of the local papers spelled the town’s name wrong in the headline, making it Warf rather than Wharf.
I see errors all the time, but they usually catch them in the headlines. :(
Hummels Wharf lies between two respectable universities, Bucknell and Susquehanna, but if you look closely you’ll find that the public schools in this region turn out a poor product, with students’ proficiency scores around 50 percent in reading and well below that in math.

Ding ding ding. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Now in Ebonics ... u be da man.

Now in Rush ... Correcto Mundo.

And now in English ... Exactly. They lack all ability to critically think.

Wow, I just put a bunch of words together to simply say, you are correct.
