She said in a news conference last week that campuses wouldnt be opening their doors to students unless theyre sure they can avoid an explosion of outbreaks.

Earlier somebody else posted an article about LAUSD not resuming in-person classes in August...However, that article was incorrect in stating that all Los Angeles County schools will go online in August...So far, only LAUSD announced the plan for fall semester...There are other districts in Los Angeles County...Like Torrance, Beverly Hills, Long Beach, and Glendale...
I think that LAUSD superintendent did not want to fight with the teachers' union on this issue...It was easier for him to go along with the union...
I would not be surprised if other districts, in Los Angeles County, decided to follow the example of Los Angeles Unified School District...The unions in other districts might ask for school closures...
After all, listen to what the L.A. County Health Director stated...She warned the superintendents not to open schools unless they are sure about avoiding "an explosion of outbreaks"...I don't see any district superintendent wanting to open up schools...It is easier for them to keep schools closed...There is no incentive for them to take any chances...
LA Unified District superintendent expressed his concern about spread of coronavirus...I think his biggest reason for not opening schools is the teachers' union...Not students spreading virus...He is afraid of union...
Is it more dangerous to work in a classroom than in a grocery store? I am talking about possibility of coronavirus infection...Is it more dangerous to work in a classroom than in a hospital?
I think many of us on FR are annoyed with teachers' unions, on coronavirus issue, because we believe that they are asking for some special treatment...
I do agree with President on opening schools...But, I don't know what else he could do besides talk about the issue... Stop federal funding? If that ever happens, the local districts will file lawsuits...I don't know how that will turn out...
The savings in personnel cost should be impressive!!!
The continued ruination of this country by the Left and DEMs.
Coming to you from the same people who adamantly touted science and data for 3 months plus are now blatantly denying the science and data. I directly blame Fauci and a host more but the Left and DEMs have taken it and made it purely political at the cost of now, our children.
So sell all the schools and real estate, and decrease property taxes.
JuSt went to the LAUSD’s website trying to find out how much the district gets in federal aid annually.
That website makes it harder than heck to quickly find any general budget info.
Note to Fedzilla: Want to do federal taxpayers a solid? Require any school district that accepts federal funds to use a standardized way to quickly and easily display budget info for lookup.
And BTW, no butts in seats, no fricking federal aid.
Of course the teachers won’t return to the schools. Why should they? They get full pay for staying home.
Havent had person to person instruction anyway. Judging by the quality of graduates.Homeschoolers will not miss out much.
People will soon realize they are sponsoring a defunct learning model. Which is basically a gravy train for employees.
They’re getting to the right place (keeping government schools closed), although for the wrong reason.
NO SCHOOL
NO TAXES
My brother (who lives in LA) told me that one third of the LAUSD issued laptops have never been logged in. Thus, the students aren’t even bothering to try “distance learning.” His kids have been in private schools from day one and now he and his wife have a small group of friends doing a homeschooling cooperative effort. Thankfully my sister-in-law has a job that has very flexible hours and allows her to work from home almost all the time.
The only thing worse than an uneducated commie is an educated commie.
Im sure the property tax refunds are in the mail.

In all these statements there is ignorance and not science:
The health and safety of all in the school community is not something we can compromise. The news about the spread of the virus continues to be of great concern.,,,,The superintendent said the five-month school closure has been the longest in recent history for the nations second-largest public school system, but the risk of widespread transmission is too great, especially since asymptomatic people can spread the virus.”
If there was any science to those statements, the K-12 schools in Sweden would have been closed instead of never closing.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1107913/number-of-coronavirus-deaths-in-sweden-by-age-groups/
If mass spread of the virus to and among children was a major factor, the above statistics by age group in Sweden would have somehow been invented and not real. The numbers are real. Children in the K-12 age group are neither greatly affected nor mass spreaders of the virus.
If wearing masks protects Walmart (ect., ect., ect) employees then it ought to be good enough for teachers as well. And of course any teacher or child who is ill, or just exhibiting Wuhan Virus symptoms, should not be in school
The current science today, after months of experience and the latest studies does not support claims that asymptomatic persons are generally passing the infection. In general they are not, because as asymptomatic (1) they have lower viral loads and (2) do not expel a viral load in their mere breath, which without coughing or sneezing would be the only way they would expel the virus. We are speaking here of the truly asymptomatic and not someone who just pretends their symptoms (sore throat, headache, coughing, sneezing, head cold) are part of something else and not the Wuhan Virus.
I wrote my school board last night and begged them to open the schools. They likely wont (will decide today) and will likely offer only 100% distance learning which Ive already been to last Spring and means posting one assignment a week, no tests and not grades and no teaching. FOR HIGH SCHOOL.
I feel like those nations in Africa that struggle to get their girls education. I cant believe the United States has fallen this far.
I will write Betsy Devos today and President Trump and beg for an Executive Order that requires/encourages the reopening of schools as he did for the meat packing plants. Surely the education of children in the US are as important as eating pork chops.
Europe and Asia reopened schools successfullywhy wouldnt the US? Do we value our children so little?
Ive already moved my teen girl to a private small Christian school nearby, but I care about other children more than my own.
Think of itnow millions of LA children will be roaming the streets this next year or playing video games. I read 40% dont have wifi to even do distance learning and teachers put some videos on PBS last Spring.
Its awful.
