The Los Angeles Teachers Union says its schools can’t open in the fall unless charter schools are closed and the police are defunded.
These are the Marxist loons teaching your kids.
Oh, and they want more money.
83% of teachers voted to not reopen in the fall.
But they still expect to get paid.
Just the News reported:
United Teachers Los Angeles, a 35,000-strong union in the Los Angeles Unified School District, made those demands in a policy paper it released this week. The organization called on local authorities to “keep school campuses closed when the semester begins on Aug. 18.”
The union outlined numerous major provisions it says will be necessary to reopen schools again, including sequestering students in small groups throughout the school day, providing students with masks and other forms of protective equipment, and re-designing school layouts in order to facilitate “social distancing.”
Yet the union goes even farther than those requests, calling for “local support” in the form of defunded police departments and the shuttering of charter schools.
Police violence “is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue,” the union writes.

Police violence is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue, the union writes.
And charter schools are a leading cause of independent thinking.

This is unreal. It just blows my mind why anyone would send their kid to these schools. Even if I was flat broke, I would do everything I could to get the hell out of there.

Its actually the historic context that is important, specifically data associated with each pandemic about mortality was the Important context I was interested in conveying, but your point is well taken.

Since early on, when it seemed clear that this was not the Bubonic Plague, I made my tagline: “COVID-19 may not burn down the world, but we may burn ourselves down to be rid of it.”
I liken it to burning down a house to get rid of a spider.
And worse, doing it with the full knowledge that it is only a spider, but there is advantage and purpose to burning down that house.

“Fast-track teaching certificates for former military.”
I think teaching certificates are part of the problem. Just make sure the new teachers are competent in their fields, and that they are decent people.

Seriously, I envy the left’s constant and varied attacks to get what they want. In that regard, the right sucks (*&$^@#*&#@^%.

Good, increase the amount of charter schools then.
Use this as an opportunity to get rid of the untenable public school model.

Keep the public schools closed.
Open private schools only.
Problem solved.
To: Jim Robinson
Close them down. Well be better off in the long run with private schools.Agreed.
Public unions should be outlawed.

The NEA hates charter schools because they teach kids what they should learn.
Instead of the Marxist claptrap their teachers try to manipulate students with.
****Dr. Thomas Sowell has just published Charter Schools and Their Enemies.
He presents actual test scores of students in traditional public schools and charter schools on New York State Education Departments annual English Language Arts test and its Mathematics Test.
Sowell gives the results of student tests in charter schools such as KIPP, Success Academy, Explore Schools, Uncommon Schools, Achievement First as well as the traditional New York City public schools. On the English Language Arts test, a majority of charter school students, most of whom were black or Hispanic, tested proficient or above.
Their achievement ratio was nearly 5 to 1. On the Mathematics test 68% of charter schools 161 grade levels had a majority of students testing proficient.
In the traditional public schools, 177 grade levels, just 10% had a majority of their student testing proficient.****
