This is unreal. It just blows my mind why anyone would send their kid to these schools. Even if I was flat broke, I would do everything I could to get the hell out of there.

It’s actually the historic context that is important, specifically data associated with each pandemic about mortality was the Important context I was interested in conveying, but your point is well taken.

What PERCENTAGE of humans were affected by the diseases?
Since early on, when it seemed clear that this was not the Bubonic Plague, I made my tagline: “COVID-19 may not burn down the world, but we may burn ourselves down to be rid of it.”
I liken it to burning down a house to get rid of a spider.
And worse, doing it with the full knowledge that it is only a spider, but there is advantage and purpose to burning down that house.
I guess property taxes will be suspended, right?

I think teaching certificates are part of the problem. Just make sure the new teachers are competent in their fields, and that they are decent people.

Good, increase the amount of charter schools then.
Use this as an opportunity to get rid of the untenable public school model.
Keep the public schools closed.
Open private schools only.

****Dr. Thomas Sowell has just published “Charter Schools and Their Enemies.”
He presents actual test scores of students in traditional public schools and charter schools on New York State Education Department’s annual English Language Arts test and its Mathematics Test.
Sowell gives the results of student tests in charter schools such as KIPP, Success Academy, Explore Schools, Uncommon Schools, Achievement First as well as the traditional New York City public schools. On the English Language Arts test, a majority of charter school students, most of whom were black or Hispanic, tested proficient or above.
Their achievement ratio was nearly 5 to 1. On the Mathematics test 68% of charter schools’ 161 grade levels had a majority of students testing proficient.
In the traditional public schools, 177 grade levels, just 10% had a majority of their student testing proficient.****
