Florida Just Broke the Single-Day Record for New Coronavirus Cases in the USA

The Florida Department of Health on Sunday reported 15,299 new Wuhan coronavirus cases. This is the largest number of cases reported in a single day. The record was previously held by New York when they reported 12,274 new cases, TIME reported.

The reason Florida saw an uptick in positive cases is because they also had a record-breaking number of tests that were conducted.

The state currently has 269,811 positive infections. In total, 18,271 people were hospitalized as a result of the virus. As of now, 2,576,813 people have been tested for the Wuhan coronavirus. That puts the Sunshine State's infection rate at 10.5 percent.

The number of positive cases has gone up over the last month. Last month, less than five percent of coronavirus tests came back positive. More than 19 percent of tests were positive over the past week, The Hill reported.

According to Rep. Donna Shalala (D), places like Miami are on the verge of seeing a second lockdown.

"It's out of control across the state because our governor won't even tell everybody to wear masks. At least in Miami-Dade county, everyone must wear a mask when they're outside," she told CNN Saturday night. "This is an American tragedy."

The uptick in positive cases was expected as the state doubled its testing capacity. Previously, Florida was testing 25,000 people a day. That number has since doubled to 50,000 tests per day.

As of now, the state has no mask mandate. Walt Disney World also reopened on Saturday, despite concern from local public health care officials.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has said he wants schools to reopen next month, despite the rising number of infections.

“We know there are huge, huge costs for not providing the availability of in-person schooling,” he said. “The risk of corona, fortunately, for students is incredibly low.”

You test more you get more “positives”, so in many cases these are not “new cases” as much as they are “newly tested cases” and represent, to a large degree, a lot of folks who have been asymptomatic for some time and will continue to be asymptomatic or have a mild illness.

The only numbers to watch are new fatalities and the death rates per number of cases or per number of million people. The rest is noise because the illness is not fatal to the overwhelming majority of people.

Imagine the public panic the media would have been responsible for if in all the years past they ran daily panic announcements of “new flu cases” (for which no one ever suggested everyone get masked).

Try googling virus DEATH data. It takes some clicking to find it.

I note that they got 150,000 results yesterday. My guess is both those tests, and the positive results, are from prior days.

In Virginia, they track by “day of infection” (they estimate this), and day-of-test, not by “day of report”.

Note also that Miami-Dade is the worst county, and they have a mask law. Meanwhile, places with no mask law are doing well. Of course, Miami-Dade has a lot of people who fail to follow basic rules, like social distancing and washing their hands apparently, and they are protesting a lot, screaming and touching each other.

The media onslaught against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continues.

How dare he have more favorable results than media pet NY Governor Andrew Cuomo!

California and North Carolina are both democratic governors. Lousiana is Democrat, and has a large number of cases as well.

It isn’t who the governor is, or what the lockdown is. The big 3 are the most southern states, two with large immigrant/migrant populations, the 3rd is Florida where they have a large hispanic population — hispanic populations throughout the country are ignoring the separation rules, live multiple families per dwelling.

In Virginia, our 3 biggest zip codes for cases are hispanic-majority.

All BS. No State reporting system is that efficient as to be able to provide such information the day after. None. Hell, just the testing for COVID takes longer than a day.

This is all political propaganda.

The media doesn't want to drill down into the numbers, and Fauci is too busy doing interviews to actually reveal the data as well.

So, many of the "new cases" will really be old cases where the doc kept ordering tests to see if the infection was over yet.

Just curious, why do you think a doctor would do that?

What difference would it make?

Doctor may want to know when patient is over the disease, and no longer contagious

https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2020/04/28/testing-numbers-from-floridas-covid-19-dashboard-may-not-show-complete-picture/

“Outside of health care workers, we also know that the Florida Department of Health tells people who have tested positive, they need two negative tests before discontinuing isolation, according to paperwork from FDOH.”

The doctor doesn't care unless it pertains to an infected healthcare worker he's working with.

Individuals may get retested to see if they can go back to work or end quarantine but it isn't the doctors driving that.

I’m not terribly happy with how our governor has run things, but our data collection and reporting is pretty good, and he has been a lot more of a “guidelines” than a “crackdown” leader. So we have mask rules, but only indoors, or if you are in a crowd. We never really closed everything, a lot of businesses who were “non-critical” were allowed to operate if they restricted customers to 10 or less at a time.

Our numbers are pretty good, and our testing is slowly increasing. We have outbreaks that are clearly associated with specific events; right now we have a surge in our beach area, where kids are running for the summer, and having parties. These are the kids that were rioting in Richmond for the past month, and probably got infected there, and are spreading it to an older population in the shores that are getting sick enough to be tested and hospitalized.

The government response in many cases is no longer about public health but public control. I do believe in the future people will be astonished that officials relied so much on models to implement those controls.

It tells me that a thin strip of cloth worn haphazardly can hardly be counted as a mask. If people wore masks that were the correct fit and material they would be dropping from heat-stroke.

But I question the mandate all the same. If masks are the be all and end all of stopping the virus wouldn’t we expect to see corresponding declining numbers at skilled nursing facilities that mandated masks long before the general public had to comply with such orders?

How high is the U.S. obesity rate compared to those other nations?

How does access to preventative health care and people actually taking advantage of it compare to the U.S.?

How likely is it that people in that country have existing antibodies from exposure to SARS 1?

Seems labs have an incentive for reporting fake positives.
