actually since they often just pass them to keep them eligible to play, i say good, end the charades

A dirty little secret of the ivies is that once you've gained admittance, you're part of the club, and as such nearly gauranteed to graduate; it's difficult for the schools to admit they have accepted somebody capable of failure.

Graduation rates of the Ivy Leagues are north of 95%.

If other sports cancel, yeah, but the Ivys don't have athletic scholarships. They also don't allow weekday football games or post season games, and severely curtail off season activities.

As many things as bug me about the Ivys, they have a proper perspective on athletics. At those schools, they really are student athletes.
