WASHINGTON (AP) — More than a dozen Native American leaders and organizations sent a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday calling for the league to force Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder to change the team name immediately.
The letter was signed by 15 Native American advocates and obtained by The Associated Press. It demands the team and the NFL cease the use of Native American names, imagery and logos — with specific importance put on Washington, which last week launched a “ thorough review ” of its name.
The letter was delivered on the same day that President Donald Trump voiced his opposition to any name change by the team. Several team sponsors have come out in favor of change recently and Snyder showed his first indication of willingness to do so amid a nationwide movement to erase racially insensitive symbols.
According to their letter, the groups “expect the NFL to engage in a robust, meaningful reconciliation process with Native American movement leaders, tribes, and organizations to repair the decades of emotional violence and other serious harms this racist team name has caused to Native Peoples.”

Football teams have changed their names over the years when they move:
Dallas Texans became the Kansas City Chiefs.
Cleveland Browns [original] became the Baltimore Ravens.
Houston Oilers became the Tennessee Titans.
The NFL also likes to RECYCLE Names from old teams.
Recycled names:
Cowboys, Giants, Browns, Titans, Panthers.
So, if the Redskins change their name, it will probably get a recycled name, like:
Tornadoes
Bulldogs
All-Americans
Tigers
Rangers
Reds
Wolverines
...................................
Just make them the “Reds”.
I have heard that before as well. Your average Native American doesn’t really give a rats ass about the name of the team as they don’t care about football or have no problem with it, it is just a Very vocal minority of race hustlers that always appear, similar to Jackson and Sharpton.

I don’t give two shakes for the NFL any longer.
They can call themselves the Washington Pink Tassels for all I care.
Next they will demand the name be changed from Washington - if they haven’t already.
A few years ago, Dan Snyder had issued a copyright on the name Bravehearts. There was speculation that this would be their new team name (although it still uses the “Brave” Indian moniker.
Personally, I would call them the Foreskins in honor of Jewish Americans /s.
