A combination of the coronavirus pandemic, economic uncertainty, and social unrest is prompting waves of Americans to move from large cities and permanently relocate to more sparsely populated areas. The trend has been accelerated by technology and shifting attitudes that make it easier than ever to work remotely. Residents of all ages and incomes are moving in record numbers to suburban areas and small towns.
A perfect storm of factors makes the decision to leave major cities like New York very obvious. The dense nature of urban living and the lack of proper local government planning led to the coronavirus spreading five times faster in New York than the rest of the country. The city that never sleeps now resembles a ghost town in many areas after thousands of its wealthy and middle-class residents fled early in the pandemic.

“DONT VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS WHEN YOU COME TO FLORIDA!”
We’re headed to FLA to buy a house in a few weeks. Can’t wait. We live in the occupied territory of Colorado.
I don’t want them in my town. I don’t an influx of liberal voters bringing their warped ideas on governance here. Stay in your decaying big cities. You created them, live in them. If you don’t like them change them.
Where are you looking?
Melbourne, Space Coast area. We’ve got to get out of here and have been working this for a few years. A number of people I know live in Florida, including our own Travis Mcgee.
Great idea.
In the 1980s a self help star Jim Rohn (self made multimillionaire) said his beloved home state of Idaho was seeing a big influx of Calfornians who left because CA was collapsing under the Dem uniparty policies.
"But they're taking their voting habits with them and starting to ruin Idaho. People are saying---stay out--we don't want your liberal results here."
Will this be a big factor in the next civil war (currently a cold war)?
The alternative to three sections of CA seceding is to move to other states. The people already living in those states so far are silent, passively grumbling about it. This includes all races and nationalities, by the way. I am not re-visiting white flight. This is all types moving to AZ,NM,ID,CO and others.
But Americans do not get along any more. They intensely hate each other if not in their own Balkanized “tribe.”
Do residents of long time areas of Scandinavians in MN say “Welcome. We want to host a big joint festival with your mosque members. An open house get together? “
Not too many.
Not all. Im exiting the city after 30 years and returning to my redneck roots. Ill probably he the most vocal conservative in Mayberry!
There’s a new run on rural property in Northern VT now. Many from the cities are buying without even visiting. The seasonal camp (falling apart) above us has been on the market for three years; by end of last month it had been shown over a dozen times and it sold for asking price.
I’m sure you’re aware of the mound system - a requirement now statewide. Can’t have a traditional septic system even though they worked well for a couple of centuries.
me 2!!
Liberal refugees, don’t vote for what you fled.
And bribing the virus with them- some towns had zero cases- now summer is here and city folks are flocking to the small towns because they don’t want ot be around all the virus in the cities- but they are bringing the virus with them to the small towns - many without even realizing it- Some are bringing it knowing they are sick-
The problem is they keep coming into southern NH too.
There was some dumb A$$ this morning complaining on the local NH Facebook page that there was not any sidewalks on such and such road.
This guy wanted a sidewalk built so that it was “SAFE” for his little darlings to walk to school and the local store. That the traffic did not allow safe passage on his road anymore.
Fortunately, there were some fiscally minded folks who chimed in that we fund these projects through our real estate taxes. That IF the gentleman wanted a sidewalk put in that he should start a fund/charity to pay for this project. This pretty much shut the guy up. However, there were many “Karens” that had agreed with him prior to those comments.
These discussions usually dissolve into the “unfair” burden by the homeowner/real estate owner that our tax base system requires. This is when some liberal will bring up the idea of an INCOME TAX.
You can usually put in a regular system IF there was one there before. The problem is if you are doing a NEW septic design.
For anyone who would like to live in a low cost manner, in high desert rural N Nevada, I have a propety for sale.

We used to say, Taxation without representation.
Now it’s become, Representation without taxation.
Where I live it’s a majority “minority” tax base. Most don’t work and pay taxes, but because of their numbers get the leftist politicians to cater to their every need. Meanwhile the working class, whose numbers are dwindling, have no voice.
Kum-bi-ya has no translation into Farsi or Arabic. Something whitebread hippies refuse to accept.
Not here - if the leach field fails we’re supposed to install a mound. Thankfully many of us have no neighbors within sight.
Our town meeting in our small town has a one word answer to every proposal.
No!
Don’t even want to hear the proposal—the answer is no!
In order to split our property, (Lake Mempremagog, lake front, best beach on the lake) the septic on one lot would have flowed from the “mound” onto the other lot. Try selling THAT!
And the funny thing is that I could have just split the lots, left my RV trailer there hooked up and the state never would have known. I never, ever would have put enough into that system to even need a pump—at least not in my lifetime.
I was so fed up with the tax system there that I was happy to get get out. The land is probably worth twice what I sold it for in 2015.
Totally agree with you on Vermont. I was born there in Randolph In the early 50s. Lived there when I was young until my parents got us out to Florida. Now I am ashamed to tell people Im from that state. Its a shame how such a beautiful state that was one of the original colonies has been turned into a communist shithole! So sad!
