Dr. Zelenko, Jewish doctor who recommended Coronavirus drug, Hydroxychloroquine, steps down

Dr. Zev Zelenko, who treated presumptive COVID-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine, announces he is leaving his clinic near Kiryas Joel.

Dr. Zev Zelenko, the Hasidic doctor who came to national prominence for treating presumptive COVID-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine, announced on Wednesday that he is leaving his clinic in Monroe, N.Y., near the Hasidic town of Kiryas Joel.

“It’s with a broken heart that I have to say this, but I have decided to leave Monroe after almost two decades of working as a doctor, taking care of the community, most recently with this terrible magefah (plague),” he said in a video addressed to his patients and residents of Kiryat Joel and shared on social media.

“Things have happened, and after speaking to my family and my mashpi’im (religious advisers ) and thinking about what I want for the future, I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on,” Dr. Zelenko continued.

The announcement comes several days after US President Donald Trump announced that he was taking hydroxychloroquine. In his comments, Trump connected his decision to start taking the drug to a New York doctor, a designation which Dr. Zelenko later claimed for himself, according to The Forward.

In the Wednesday video, Dr. Zelenko said that he wanted to dispel rumors that his decision to leave had anything to do with a disagreement with his current employer, CareStier Health, where he is the medical director.

In signing off, he wished the residents of Kiryas Joel long life, good health, financial success, and that they should all live to see the return of the Messiah.

It also comes after Zelenko released a video over the weekend, addressed to the Kiryas Joel residents, in which he accused town leaders of orchestrating multiple investigations against him. Zelenko accused three men — Gedalye Szegedin, the town administrator; Mayer Hirsch, a developer and Joel Mittelman, the chief executive of the main health care provider in Kiryas Joel, where Zelenko used to work — of being responsible for the deaths of 14 Jews who died of Covid-19. The three did not act quickly enough in closing the town’s synagogues and schools at the beginning of the pandemic, he said.

In an interview with the Forward Tuesday, Szegedin denied all the accusations, and said that he, Mittelman and Hirsch were considering legal proceedings for libel against Zelenko.

Zekenko declined to comment further on his video.

In the Wednesday video, Zelenko said that he wanted to dispel rumors that his decision to leave had anything to do with a disagreement with his current employer, CareStier Health, where he is the medical director.

FROM THE NEW YORK POST:

https://nypost.com/2020/05/21/doctor-who-promoted-covid-cocktail-leaves-jewish-community/

(EXCERPT)

The announcement comes after community leaders accused the doctor of spreading misinformation about the rate of coronavirus infection in Kiryas Joel, prompting discrimination against residents, according to The Times of Israel.

Zelenko is also being investigated by a Baltimore federal prosecutor over his inaccurate claim that a study of the drugs he touted had won FDA approval, the outlet reported.

In a New York Times interview early this month, Zelenko claimed that sloppy wording was to blame for that statement.

“I’m a clinician, not a researcher,” he said. “I don’t fully understand the language of clinical research.”

In March, Zelenko claimed in a YouTube video that he had recently successfully treated 350 patients showing early signs of the coronavirus using the drug cocktail in his office.

He claimed the $20 treatment had “100 percent” success among patients in Monsey, where he also practiced.

“If anyone has any political influence, please make noise because we need the political status to change and these medications to be used without obstruction,” Zelenko said.

Every great man has had his challenges and tormentors. When this is over and analyzed without the prism of political correctness, Dr.Zelenko will be remembered and honored as a great physician and man.

He claimed the $20 treatment had “100 percent” success

Well, he can't be out there pushing some $20 drug when there's a $12,000 they need to sell.

She’s young, healthy, and able to obtain HCL. I’m sure she’ll be just fine.

This is old news.

The back story is he was angered by the town’s health system administrator for not heeding his warning to push the town’s administrator to shut down the schools and synagogues early in the pandemic. As a result 14 people died from COVID-19.

Dr. Zelenko blamed them for the deaths. A heated spat followed.

MD’s today will tell you that medical administrators focus on the bottom line rather than health. As a result MD’s are treated like hired help rather than as patient advocates.

What Dr. Zelenko went through is commonplace in today’s medical business. Doctors are liable, medical administrators are not. That needs to change.

Lots of us are infected with SARS-COV-2 but will never get COVID-19.

The American population needs to be prescribed the Raoult-Zelenko regimen for prophylaxis in an outpatient setting.

Friends I know in the surrounding community who are non Hasidim owes this man a debt of gratitude. The Hasidim community is secretive. They would have never known the severity of the infected in thier area if it weren’t for him. The Hasidim frequent many shopping areas and businesses in non Hasidim communities surrounding theirs. At the height of the pandemic they were not social distancing and not wearing masks at schools, synagogues and while in surrounding communities. Weeks after they were told to close down the schools (all other school where closed for weeks) the kids were seen at the schools and none were protected. So they were not concerned about anyone else let alone themselves. The grand rebi said its ok no problem and this is what the adhere to.

He said “the return of the Messiah”. Wow, good on him unless he is referring to Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson—which would be preposterous.
