One of President Trumps few major Silicon Valley backers in the 2016 campaign reportedly expects to abandon him in 2020.
According to a Thursday evening report in the Wall Street Journal, venture capitalist Peter Thiel likely will sit out the race this time around because he sees the chance of a Trump victory as slim.
The Journal, citing people familiar with the matter reported that Mr. Thiel has soured on the presidents prospects in recent weeks because of the state of the economy and expected double-digit unemployment in November.
Mr. Thiel, a co-founder of PayPal Holdings, spoke at the Republican National Convention in 2016, calling Mr. Trump the ideal man to rebuild the economy, He also donated $1.25 million to the Trump campaign and related groups.
But he hasnt given any money to Trump groups this year and, according to the Journals sources, does not plan to do so.
Now, according to one person who speaks to Mr. Thiel about politics, he describes the Trump campaign as the S.S. Minnow, from the shipwreck TV show Gilligans Island.
Nevertheless, the Journal reported, Mr. Thiel considered Democrat Joseph R. Biden as too much of a liberal retread to support and does not plan to switch or publicly break with Mr. Trump.
He also hasnt ruled out an unenthusiastic vote for Mr. Trump, the Journal reported.
The billionaire who publicly abandoned Silicon Valley as an intolerant den of groupthink is likely instead, people familiar with the matter told the Journal, to donate big to Republican House and Senate candidates to keep at least part of the government in GOP hands.

people familiar with the matter said that there were people familiar with the matter who were convinced that people familiar with the matter were certain there were people familiar with the matter.
Soured? Probably snubbed by people on the other side, and can’t handle it. Sold his soul to the devil instead.
What a stupid comment.
Is this piece of fake news from Fake news AP through the Washington Times?
Double digital unemployment in November?
On what planet is that?
We just had 4.8 million new jobs in June with unemployment already down 2.2% to 11.1%.
Even by July, unemployment will be down to under 10%. By October we will be looking at unemployment under 5%.
The entire article is pure fake news.
people familiar with the matter. = We made it all up from loincloth to attack and undermine President Trump.
Why is that still expected at this point? The economy is bouncing back at a very decent pace - we could be below 10% next month if the trend continues.
These Silicon Valley folks seem to be isolated in a ideological bubble. Many have taken their place through a technological route that has not been influenced by the principals of Capitalism. Without such background, they are vulnerable to Social Justice, which is a blueprint for Marxism. Social Justice is leading such sheep to slaughter.
So what Thiel thinks he will be better off with a Biden economy the man just cant be THAT STUPID!!
Good to see Unnamed Sources is still alive
At least I had an excuse for repeating something that bears repeating.
Good news is that this was before tonight and honestly trump has had bad news for months. I think tonight is his turn around I hope.
That’s the comment I was waiting for!
5th MEB
Was it made up from the nether region of a used loincloth?
Or did spell check get you when you meant to say "whole cloth"?
He sat out the race last time.
I just don’t trust these “come to Jesus” conversions of people like Thiel, Tucker Carlson, et al. They have always smacked me as opportunistic. Menopausal Ann the same way. Trump was good for her selling books for a while, but once he built 700 miles of wall, not so good for her.
He’s probably afraid to get cancelled
Thiel risked a lot by supporting Trump openly in 2016.... literally every venture he gets involved with or funds, immediately has articles written about the venture attaching his name to Trump. He may choose to not openly donate, but given the way the super pac laws are written... you can easily donate to a charity anonymously who then sends a contribution to a superpac.
