Same . I grew up in a slum of an area with foster parents and then a foster mother who kept me for the money she got. No hope for me I went into the military. Did my years in a combat unit, came to this country and worked over 80 hours in 4 jobs. I got a lower rent due ot me working on the place and improving it when I was not working.
I now have my paid off house though it is a small one but big enough for me. Now 2 of my kids have joined the military and my youngest has just been sworn into the Marines to follow the family. Youngest is at work right now and is every day 5 days a week whilst on school vacation.
These go fund crap is about wanting others to give you money and not working for it. I never took a dime off anyone and hate those who have their hands out

I always told (and still tell) my daughter that success to me is being able to take care of yourself and not dependent on someone else.
Any material or career gain beyond that is frosting on your cake!
