A memo to the legion of the chronically aggrieved.
There are people who live to be offended. They’re called Progressives. They are offended by Confederate statues, by monuments that they say celebrate white supremacy and colonialism, by Trump supporters, by Trump himself, and by those who refuse to get on their knees and grovel before Black Lives Matter.
Well, I’ve got news for them.
An Open Letter to the Legion of Lamentation:
I don’t give a rodent’s rear end if you’re offended by the following:
1. I’m white – I don’t feel guilty about slavery, segregation, the Trail of Tears or the treatment of Chinese railroad workers – because (now get this) I didn’t have anything to do with any of this. I’m no more responsible for these injustices than the Indian of today is responsible for the Black Hole of Calcutta. The idea of racial guilt is absurd. White privilege is a myth. Where is the White Miss America Contest, White History Month and White Entertainment Television? Where are the quotas and set-asides for Caucasians?
2. I love America – I believe in American exceptionalism. America pioneered representative government guided by a written constitution. We fought a war with 620,000 dead to end slavery. We defeated Nazi Germany and liberated the death camps. Our arms kept communism from conquering the world. Our factories and workshops produced a flood of inventions and products that benefited humanity. What country has done as much – especially in 244 years, a relative hiccup in time?
3. I’m a Zionist – I would be even if I weren’t a Jew. (Today, there are more Christian Zionists than Jewish Zionists.) Modern Israel is a miracle and a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. Israel is a beleaguered outpost of civilization in a savage region and a bulwark against the forces of darkness.
4. My heroes include George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt – Washington and Lincoln were indispensable men. Washington defeated the greatest army on earth and led our country for the first quarter-century of its existence. Lincoln saved the Union and inspired generations with his rhetoric. Andrew Jackson, the hero of the Battle of New Orleans, represented the pioneer spirit. Teddy Roosevelt led the charge into the 20th century, the American Century. Together, they gave us a country so free that malcontents like Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib can dump on it without fear of reprisal.
5. I think police officers are generally decent/honorable men and women who are doing a difficult, dangerous, often thankless job – You couldn’t pay me enough to do it. Besides risking their lives every time they go to work, there are the daily insults to bear. They are the punching bag for the nation. And, like our military, they are all that stands between us and the abyss.
6. I sleep better knowing that 37% of U.S. households have one or more guns – That’s why we’ll never have a Holocaust here. Europe has had the divine right of kings, religious persecution, Communism and Nazism. We have the Second Amendment. The anarchy in our streets, coupled with calls to defund the police, underscore the need for civilian gun ownership.
7. Reparations is racial plunder. The idea of racial guilt is an obscenity from the dark recesses of 19th century European history – There’s no group in the world that hasn’t been oppressed at some point in time. Will Denmark pay reparations to the English for the Danelaw? Will Mongols and Manchus compensate the Chinese? How about the English and the Irish, the Mongols and the Russians, the Cossacks and Jews? Will bi-racial Barack Obama take money out of one pocket and put it in another?
8 Believing that you’re a member of the opposite sex doesn’t make you one – Gender is determined at birth by your DNA. Just as you can’t change your DNA, you can’t change your sex. You should not be able to force others to participate in your fantasy. Reality isn’t hateful.
9. At this perilous juncture in our history, I’m glad Donald Trump is president – The president loves this country. He really does have Israel’s back. Who else is strong enough to stand up to China and Iran? Unlike almost everyone else in Washington, as a businessman, he understands the market economy. He’s giving us judges who deliberate instead of legislating. And he has the guts not to be liked.
10. You have a right to disagree with me. You do not have a right to try to silence me – Being offended doesn’t trump the First Amendment. Attacking statues and assaulting those with different values is Brownshirt behavior. Generations of Americans died for freedom of speech, not freedom to suppress speech.
To say you’re offended exalts your feelings above everything else. It’s not an argument, but a call to end discussion – an admission of intellectual impotence. Being offended isn’t a mark of virtue; it’s a sign that you’re a big, blubbering baby who will throw a tantrum if you can’t get your way.
Anyone who’s ashamed...or proud...of being white needs his/her head examined.Same goes for black/brown/yellow/red/blue/pink...

I agree with all except number 2.....I feel the America I grew up with is gone.....I feel my country is lost.....like Rush has said, America can survive the bammys and the toons, but it can not survive the likes of whoever would vote for them.....

It's the longstanding Democrat Jim Crow one drop standard, in reverse. It's fair to say that we're largely a nation of ethnic mongrels, united as Americans. Under Democrat standards one drop of the preferred race or ethnicity brings privilege.

I’m not a fan of Andrew Jackson but other than that I agree with the list.
I agree with most of those. We didn’t fight a war to preserve or to end slavery though and Lincoln is no hero of mine.
Otherwise I agree. Furthermore,
- I will never apologize for being a Southerner
- I will never apologize for being a gun owner
- I will never apologize for being against Leftism in all its branches...ie socialism, communism, cultural marxism, etc. I’m opposed to all of it. Its all idiotic and totalitarian.
- I will never apologize for believing in the nation state - yes including a national defense, borders, national sovereignty or the country acting in the best interests of its citizens rather than “the world”.
- I will never apologize for refusing to accept the idea that I “owe” anybody anything except the same common courtesy civilized people owe each other.
- I will never apologize for not worshiping Earth Mother Gaia. I do not subscribe to your religion. Deal with it.
- I will never apologize for being a straight male. I’m normal. Again, deal with it.
- I will never apologize for not liking popular culture. Its overwhelmingly crap and its filled with vacuous self important air heads and various kinds of Leftism.
- I will never apologize for refusing to defer to so-called “intellectuals”. I’ve seen these people. I have at least as much education as most of them and far more real world experience. I know most of them are arrogant clueless idiots.

I could not be more in agreement with him.
Blacks have not thought this through. Reparations should be based on the income differential a black has in the US versus what they would earn in the nation where their ancestors came from (e.g., Ghana). Some quick research shows that average black income minus the average income in Ghana is about $15K/year, time about 40 million blacks. The result is blacks need to pay non-blacks about $600 billion per year in reparations (and that doesn't factor in non-cash transfer payments to blacks). Careful what you wish for.
Social media and non-face-to-face conversation has lead to the inability to disagree, agreeably.
On FR or any other forum, the slightest bit of non-conformity is met with the most vile reaction. Threats of violence and insults that would make a sailor blush are just the veneer of an ugliness that has come over the world.
Stop using “user names” and the world becomes a different place.

I had the same response...although I will say this: I admire the prickly nature of Andrew Jackson, I heard him referred to as a “bantam rooster” who terrified everyone and didn’t care one whit about niceties, and backed down from nobody.
It was said his irascibility was due to his dueling wound.
That said, he was a Democrat, and much of what we hate today in politics stems from him and his successors (PARTICULARLY Martin Van Buren) in some form or another.

I’m disappointed it’s only 37%; I assumed the number would be much higher.
Back Lives Matter tears down American History but...they always forget that the “South” was part of the USA from 1776 to 1860. Many “Southern Generals” were at one time West Point Cadets. I look at the Revolutionary War and the battles of the Cow Pens, Guilford Courthouse, Yorktown in 1781, with Generals Nathanial Greene, George Washington & Lt. General, Daniel Morgan fighting the British army in the Southern Department at a very tough & dangerous time of the Revolution.
The Key battle of that skirmish was not Yorktown, where the British, General Cornwallis surrendered to Washington & the French navy/army. It was the brilliant battle of “The Cow Pens” Won by Morgan, whose skills and plans are still studied in West Point to this day!!!
Cow Pens only lasted about thirty-five minutes until the British military was literally slaughtered on the battle field, defeated by the weak Militia & Regulars led by the backwoods, American General, Daniel Morgan. Morgan’s group of 2000 was mainly militia...who tended to turn and run after they fired a shot or two.
First Morgan picked out a battle site, bordered by a river, so the Militias could not back up and run....the he went around the night campfires chatting with his militia telling them all he needed from them was two bursts of shots and then they should turn and run to hide behind his regulars....There were three lines of Militia and one line of Sharpshooters.
He also told them this battle would make history, as the British Calvary would charge it, and, would ride directly into the militia and regulars combined. In fifteen minutes 700 British Calvary were slain or wounded.
This rag tag militia was made up of Southern Farm Boys, Free Negroes, Native Indians, Freed Caribbean Slaves, Hispanics, Irish, German, Portugese,etc. all wanted Freedom from the tyranny of British rule. Me Thinks, “Black Lives Matter” should study American History of American Blacks before they shoot their mouths off!!!
America is far from perfect and slavery is an non removable scar we hold...but....the American experience is a Tale of life and development of freedom for free men and women!!! Just one man’s opinion!!!
