I’m wondering if all of this anti-Columbus activity, virtually all of it coming from the left, will have an effect on the political opinions of Italian-Americans. There are over 17 million of them, and a lot of them vote.

Most Italian-Americans in the U.S. are 3rd-4th generation. It would be difficult to say how they align with political parties. My guess would be that the majority of today's Italian-Americans vote democrat because they follow the party of their New Deal democrat immigrant great-grandparents.

It amazes me how so many people with Roman Catholic European roots vote democrat. I.e., how does any Roman Catholic justify voting for a pro-baby-killing, pro-perversion party? There is a great disconnect in how these people choose to vote contrary to the convictions and teaching of their Roman Catholic faith.
