A drunk guy got killed by a cottonmouth on a river in the Ozarks couple years ago.
It made the news b/c his family tried to blame it on external factors, whereas I believe he initially refused medical care.

I was born in the Ozarks. You have to keep your wits about you. We moved to Oregon when I was 8. If you can keep from falling off a cliff or getting swept out to seafood, you’re good. No venomous snakes to speak of in the coast.
