BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:45 P.M.) U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted on Tuesday that Washington wants to extend the arms embargo against Iran in order to prevent them from purchasing new Russian and Chinese fighter jets.
According to Pompeo, the arms embargo against Iran ends in October and this will pave the way for Tehran to acquire fighter jets like Russias Su-30 and Chinas J-10.
If the @UN Arms Embargo on Iran expires in October, Iran will be able to buy new fighter aircraft like Russias SU-30 and Chinas J-10. With these highly lethal aircraft, Europe and Asia could be in Irans crosshairs. The U.S. will never let this happen, Pompeo tweeted.
There have been several reports in the past year that have indicated that Iran is inquiring about new Russian and Chinese jets, along with their advanced air defense systems.
However, due to the ongoing arms embargo, Iran is not permitted to acquire these weapons until October, when it is finally lifted.
The U.S. has been pushing for an extension of the arms embargo to prevent these purchases, but it looks like their attempts may fail this time, as Beijing and Moscow have rejected the move.
It barely matters. We’re doing a fine job of tearing ourselves apart.
Whose planes do you think they’ve been buying for years?
Betting that was a rocket propellant plant that blew up yesterday.
“Fears”?
Okie dokie....
PLEASE DON’T THROW ME IN THAT BRIAR PATCH!!!!.....................
None due to the arms embargo.
Drop complete embargoes on the sellers...come on grow some....
Oh really?
Ha. Guess again
In event they come after US fighters it will work out just like it did when Libyan MIGS came after Tomcats. Live target practice is quality training.
Russian and chinese aircraft are reverse engineered copies of other country’s aircraft. They look similar, but cannot compete with our aircraft.
Okay, none of consequence. Iran’s motley collection of cast offs, license builts, and geriatric aircraft do not amount to much. Which is why they want a tranche of new model fighter bombers that would clearly violate the current UN arms embargo.
SO, THEY WERE CAUGHT WITH THEIR PANSTIR DOWN?...............
Which expires in October. No doubt the orders will be in by early November.
They shouldn't have named it after their favorite tanks.
/bingo
As we already know that muslims are prone to self extermination in furtherance of their religion any
modern jet purchases should be considered one way
suicide missions. Pretty useless purchase of a
modern fighter aircraft
Probably. But the US and Europe together might be able to swing an extension. China seems the more likely source for new fighter bombers for the Iranian Air Force, with Russian arms production being increasingly problematic as to cost, quality, and delivery times.
