BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:45 P.M.) U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted on Tuesday that Washington wants to extend the arms embargo against Iran in order to prevent them from purchasing new Russian and Chinese fighter jets.
According to Pompeo, the arms embargo against Iran ends in October and this will pave the way for Tehran to acquire fighter jets like Russias Su-30 and Chinas J-10.
If the @UN Arms Embargo on Iran expires in October, Iran will be able to buy new fighter aircraft like Russias SU-30 and Chinas J-10. With these highly lethal aircraft, Europe and Asia could be in Irans crosshairs. The U.S. will never let this happen, Pompeo tweeted.
There have been several reports in the past year that have indicated that Iran is inquiring about new Russian and Chinese jets, along with their advanced air defense systems.
However, due to the ongoing arms embargo, Iran is not permitted to acquire these weapons until October, when it is finally lifted.
The U.S. has been pushing for an extension of the arms embargo to prevent these purchases, but it looks like their attempts may fail this time, as Beijing and Moscow have rejected the move.
And Europe will join in because....?
The new planes will mean huge enlistment in pilot school, and a few years later, flights into exile en masse.

Russian SUs and MiGs are not copies, However the Chinese J-10, J-20 are copies.
The SU-35 is not a plane an F-22 wants to tangle with, while the J-20 is an AWACS killer.
With newly acquired airpower, Iran is likely to prompt or provoke or amplify a proxy war or Mideast war that will endanger Europe’s interests — including their desire not to suffer a renewed flood of refugees. To press that and other arguments, the US can deploy considerable economic and political threats and incentives, including trade terms and US military basing and troop levels. And the US can warn that in a crunch, the US will back Israel against Iran with little consideration as to Europe’s desires and interests.
Hardly a compelling argument considering how far-fetched it is.

Threaten them? That's going to get them onboard?
And the US can warn that in a crunch, the US will back Israel against Iran with little consideration as to Europes desires and interests.
That's already a given.
Reagan, for example, virtually dragged Europe into a renewed effort to win the Cold War at a time when Europe was close to making a deal with the USSR to go neutral. In one crucial episode, he managed to get European agreement to permit the US to base Pershing II nuclear IRBMs there in spite of massive antinuclear public demonstrations and fierce Soviet opposition.
Once the missiles were introduced, the Soviets agreed to a treaty to limit them, which eased the Soviet nuclear threat to Europe. And at the same time, Reagan spiked the first iteration of a Russian natural gas pipeline to Europe, which infuriated Europe.
In essence, the US holds some strong cards in dealing with Europe -- more so than is commonly credited.
As for Iran, her menace to Sunni and Arab neighbors is already sufficient to impel many of them to align with Israel so as to shelter under her military power. Already, Iran is engaged in military adventures in Libya, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and the Palestinian Territories. It is hard to imagine that Iran would be less provocative with a new, modern air force at her disposal.
We used to train Iranian Air Force pilots at a Texas Air Force base. Those Iranians couldnt fly airplanes to save their a$$es. I dont think much has changed. This is why I figured the Iraqi Air Force would be no factor in the Gulf War. They are cut from the same cloth.
Al-Masdar Al-’Arabi as in a Syrian friendly news source?
Latest on that explosion:
Satellite photos published by AP on Saturday, June 27, show the big blast at Parchin Friday occurred at the site of an underground tunnels system and missile production site hidden in mountains east of Tehran. Officials first claimed it was caused by a gas leak in the public area of the Parchin military base, where Iran had in the past been suspected of conducting high-explosive tests for nuclear warheads.
