We are seeing jurisdictions everywhere imposing mask bans at a rate that approaches the number of bars being threatened with liquor license revocation for failing to enforce social distancing. If that sentence seems complicated, then you are beginning to appreciate just how confusing all the arguments are about face coverings. After all, we have N95s, surgical masks, homemade cloth masks .. and the classic train robber bandana. Just for good measure, as I wore my cup-style dust mask on my last pass through Costco, I saw staff members wearing required face coverings that came from lathe section at Woodcraft.
It should be intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that these masks are not all identical in their intended use and possible function against viruses. .. The bandana blocks the good guys from seeing who the bad guy is. In both cases, breathing around them is very easy, and aerosols aren't blocked.

Wearing masks outside are more dangerous than not wearing a mask outside.
Wear one or not.
But when you say you want numbers such as those in Korea, Japan, or Taiwantake a look at the steps they take.
But that would mean you would have to contact trace and wear a mask.

PS you don’t need to wear a mask outside UNLESS you are in close proximity to others. It’s not that complicated people.
I was trained for asbestos abatement but was not fitted for PPE as it is illegal to fit a person with a beard. Anyone wearing a beard can not be tightly fitted. It is probably more dangerous for a person with a beard to wear a mask.

Face masks are good for droplets, not airborn.
Also, folks who are happy to smother themselves are also more likely to social distance. So it may be the social distancing that’s doing more good than the face mask.
I’m all for the social distancing. Not for self-inflicted hypoxia.

Masks are the same sort of safety theater as is TSA.
My guess is that they are probably about 90% effective at reducing infections at grocery stores.
Masks are tools. They, like police officers, are not anywhere close to 100% effective.
The economy needs vaccines.
They are the visible symbol that the wearer has agreed to adopt sheep-hood.
No human can prove the science of mandatory wearing of masks as it might prevent the spreading of the virus. It’s based upon non-scientific paranoia and the thrill of being a political tyrant.
What is the infection rate with a mask vs no mask?
