Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers should change their team name because of its ties to brutality and racism, a Chicago Tribune columnist argued Thursday. Steve Chapman wrote that the Rangers were “revered” in Texas but “the legends omit a lot of the reality.” Chapman cites the book “Cult of Glory: The Bold and Brutal History of the Texas Rangers” by Doug J. Swanson as the main reason for the organization to change the name.

If management and ownership weakens and gives in, perhaps they might have a public fan contest for a new name. I would suggest “PCP, or Politically Correct Pussies”.

Isn’t that a sexist/misogynist name for a company that disenfranchises the female population of fast food eaters?
So in addition to Indian nicknames, now others are on the chopping block, for offending the politically correct crowd.
We need to change many other names too, with this reasoning.
Milwaukee Brewers is offensive to real beer brewers.
Pittsburgh Steelers is offensive to real steel workers.
Dallas Cowboys is offensive to real cowboys.
Boston Celtics is an ethnic slur against the Celtic people.
Fighting Irish of Notre Dame is similarly an ethnic slur.
New Orleans Saints, LA Angels, and San Diego Padres are offensive to the Catholic Church.
New England Patriots and Philadelphia 76ers harken back to the American Revolution, which cannot be permitted in today’s politically correct culture.
All the animal team names are offensive to PETA.
You won’t be allowed to have any nickname for a sports team. They will just have to be identified by whatever city or region they play in.
But then, some names will have to change based on the city name changing. Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL come to mind, as the city needs to change its name.
Ditto Washington Nationals. Washington Redskins is doubly offensive. So they will become nameless.
They need a second opinion. Maybe a visit to jellystone park to interview Yogi for his political/racial view of Rangers.
