Truckers wouldn’t deliver to cities that defund police, poll suggests

Truckers are promising to bring freight deliveries to a screeching halt in any city that cuts or disbands its police department, a new poll shows.

Three out of four long-haul drivers told CDL News, a website for the commercial trucking industry, that they would fear for their personal safety if a city slashed its number of cops in response to the demonstrations nationwide against police brutality.

Trucking ranks consistently as one of the most dangerous jobs nationwide, labor statistics show. In 2018, the occupation topped the list, followed by construction workers, farmers and ranchers, groundkeepers and miscellaneous agricultural employees.

And what happens when the trucking company threatens to fire those truckers not delivering to defunded police areas?

There is a huge shortage of truckers. They will get snapped up by the competition in a moment.

If the communists want to break off from this country in self-governing restricted Bolshevik communes like that in Seattle, there are very effective ways of dealing with them. Starvation, for one. Cutting public utilities, for another. A cutoff of consumer products. Too many of the budding Reds’ lifelines come through rural America and they haven’t begun to hear from us yet.

It would take less than week to get the message through.

I had not thought of that, but it makes perfect sense. Of course the cost of delivering to a police free area will greatly increase for which those in those areas will complain. The Government will demand truckers delivery for a fixed fee and apparently there will no trucking into that area.

Actions have consequences.

Defund the police you get vigilantism and you get provocations against vigilantism that coudl turn into another ugly incident and a push to disarm Americans which will be interesting without cops. They threw a fit with Trump suggesting military intervention, so how will they then justify the need for military to disarm us? Dunno. All I know is that this is endgame chess and we better be thinking 20 moves ahead.

“Truckers wouldn’t deliver to cities that defund police, poll suggests”

77% of Truckers said we are not going to deliver and NYP characterizes it as the poll “suggests”.
Yeah 77% is too small to draw a conclusion /s

And that’s where unions have some value. The union would see this as a safety issue, and back the refusing truckers. I saw that sort of thing while working in a steel mill. (And yes, I saw a lot of union corruption too.)

If you don’t do the job, you certainly can be fired.

Sorry. My post #12 was supposed to go to CatOwner.

I was distracted by my cat demanding a treat. I think CatOwner would sympathize.

Camden New Jersey still has truckers going there without a police department.

what happens when the trucking company threatens to fire those truckers

Those trucking companies will find themselves "out of business."

“And what happens when the trucking company threatens to fire those truckers not delivering to defunded police areas?”

Once the trucking company executives see their insurance premiums go through the roof for deliveries in those zones, they may decide it’s not a bad idea to avoid those zones.

No county or state police to take up the slack?

I would agree with you if the unions weren't run by leftists. I predict the unions will side with the democrat run cities, trucker's safety be damned.
