MONROE, Mich. Dozens of people are saying its beyond time for the statue of Civil War commander General Armstrong Custer in Monroe to finally come down.
All of us feel like if this is up then we have no justice, we have no peace at all, honestly. It feels like its a threat to us, honestly. Like, why is this up, praising this guy when we have no justice for our colors, said one Monroe woman.
Shes not the only one who feels that way. An online petition has bee started proposing the statues removal and so far its received thousands of signatures.
We should have justice for ourselves. If we dont feel like this needs to be up then all of us as a community should be able to come together. Everybody deserves Justice. Everybody deserves peace. Everyone deserves equality. Until we have all that, we will not have no peace. No justice, no peace, Ariana Baez said.
But only time will tell in a world thats ever-changing, especially in the year 2020.
We out here fighting for our people, you know? Custer, that gotta come down, a woman said.

If only George had a little patience and waited for the gatling guns.
Good old Captain Parmenter!
There’s a state park near me that has a bunch of hiking trails with different color blazes on the trail. Blazes are paint markers on trees to denote the trail.
One of the trails is called the Indian Run Trail with red blazes. Just fir kicks, I’m thinking of mentioning it on local social media to see if I can get the Karen’s and PhH Mom’s all aflutter.
True— and the Indians wiped out his command out of his totally foolish operational command in ... “Indian country”.
He wanted to be President, imagine— just like the idiot Biden. His body was scalped and mutilated, and the Lakota women punctured his ears into his brain “so he would listen and hear better when the Great Spirit speaks of his harming of the Lakota”. Good movie on this “Son of the Morning Star”. Also great is the pure science analysis of the movements of the command, using shell casings still on the battlefield and GPS locators. Fascinating- they violated all kinds of trained tactics, and were slaughtered (and killed themselves as well, apparently).
So, there’s that. Southerners know Custer for trying to get General Longstreet to surrender the remnants of the Army of N. Virginia to Custer (a Colonel) in the last days before the Appomattox surrender. Custer rode on to confront Longstreet and demanded surrender from him. Longstreet stood in his saddle, (said to have sworn at Custer, saying “The Generals will meet and arrange the terms, not a BOY like you of junior rank!)with a raised voice at Custer and then literally chased him off.
Custer had it coming and a great Native cavalry delivered it. He would have been a terrible President.
Monroe is named for President James Monroe. When does it have to be renamed? After all, Monroe was a slaveowner.
“Custer was a UNION officer, fighting to defeat the South.”
True.
But he’s also had a reputation among some historians and SJW’s for what he did at the Battle of the Washita.
They will do that.
The goal is to tear down every monument of white people, because it’s white supremacist.
Nobody is going to be spared.
Trump would likely be in favor of removing Custer’s statue.
Trump: “Custer’s was a loser”
General Grant needs to be REMOVED FROM GRANTS TOMB... HE INVADED MEXICO!
They should pull down statues to General Eisenhower as he killed lots of white people. That’s racist.
BLM is controlled by Antifa’s neo-Nazi white boys. Ariana Baez is a klutz.
Just take down all statues of anyone, anywhere. Oh wait, isn’t that what the Muslims want?
They won’t stop until they are stopped.
I wonder if they ever ask themselves why there is a statue of someone like Custer in the first place? Of course not, that would require thinking.
Custer did have a breveted general’s rank at the age of 23 in 1863, fought at Gettysburg and received the first Confederate flag of truce at Appomattox and was there for the surrender. He supposedly took off with the table the surrender was signed on. It’s ironic that he is remembered for his final fatal failure, but the same traits, going right in at the enemy, are what made his career during the Civil War.
My other is “oriental”.
Friend’s friend (RIP) once corrected me in a restaurant - and we were just talking, not to waiters or anything - that it’s “Asian”. I said, I’ll call them what I want.
Frankly I really should say “yellow” to be consistent, but just can’t quite get the gumption to do so.
“.. ask themselves why there is a statue of someone like Custer in the first place?”
To celebrate his torture and killing of Indians.
Why such animus against Custer?
LOL
