It’s not just the monthly pension cost. IIRC, unused vacation and sick leave payouts are lump sum at time of departure. What I can’t recall is if unused S&V were allowed to accumulate over years. Executive officers usually have many years of unused sick leave accumulated. Since I learned of this a limit may have been placed on amount of earned time....we shall see.
