Yep - this really was what i would term “a tragic accident”...the shove wasn’t that hard and was center of mass to move the guy out of the officer’s face...the guy tripped over his own feet on the way back.
The “75 year old” was a big guy, much taller the the policeman he approached. The push was one handed and did not look very hard, the man seemed to stumble back several steps fall back first and start bleeding from the ear. Maybe he hit his head.

There is no way the officer intended harm, let alone serious harm in that push. It was simply, get out of the way. It went bad for protester.
What did the officer see? A tall belligerent man walks up on two policemen in riot gear. He is significantly taller than those policemen. He certainly did not look frail. He looked fit. The video is linked above.

My parents taught me that you do not shove old people when you have a choice. The problem here is police training. Police are trained to believe that a fingernail is more important than the life of a civilian. Do not try to tell me different, been there done that.
