If the geezer made contact with the cop, why didn’t they cop just arrest and cuff the geezer? Wouldn’t that have been the proper way to deal with the old man?

Unless the guy spit on them or something like that no need to shove an old man down.

IMHO they should have just taken his aside and told him to go home.

I was wondering the same but the cops had a mission.

Arresting him would have taken two officers and a car and left them short handed.

They were there to clear the streets.

The idiot tried to stop them.

He got what he deserved.

I saw the video, and it didn't look at me that the cop gave much of a "shove" to the man - more of a "back off" gesture that made slight contact and happened to catch the guy with his weight on his heels and his legs close together, so he lost his balance and fell backwards; it didn't look to me like the cop propelled him to the ground.

I don't think any of the cops wanted to arrest the guy, but just wanted him to keep his distance and not crowd them and get in their space.

There were a bunch of protestors that they were pushing back. I’m guessing they gave the protestors their 4 or 5 warnings to disperse and then when they didn’t the cops pushed forward.

The old guy comes up to the police and confronts them, and is toughing them.

They can’t stop to arrest the guy as they don’t have the protestors controlled yet. The cop that did tried to help the guy got told to leave him and stay in the line to push the protestors back. The cop that told him got on his radio, and I imagine it was to call in aid for the old guy - but obviously just a presumption.

Their job was to control the situation first, and then help the old guy. It would be interesting to know how long it took help to get to him. I imagine not too long.

Maybe at one time. Now they just let the criminals out of jail.

I watched the video and it appeared to me that the cop’s push wasn’t intended to actually knock the man down. Unfortunately older people are more susceptible to losing their balance if pushed without warning. I know this because I am one!
