Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) on Thursday criticized the placement of additional barriers outside the White House amid ongoing protests in the city against police brutality and racial inequality.
"Keep in mind that thats the peoples house," Bowser said during a press conference after workers were seen erecting additional fencing and barriers on the grounds surrounding the White House.
Officials placed concrete barriers along Pennsylvania Avenue NW near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and erected tall fencing along 17th Street NW early Thursday morning. The moves came after law enforcement placed additional fencing on Pennsylvania Avenue NW and parts of H and 16th streets NW as part of its efforts to block pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area.
While protests have remained largely peaceful the past couple days, police and military personnel, at least some of whom were not wearing identifiers, have been positioned around the White House to keep demonstrators at a greater distance.
On Monday, law enforcement dispersed protesters peacefully demonstrating in Lafayette Square before President Trump visited a historic church in the area for a photo-op.
Bowser said that she was concerned some of the added security measures at the White House would be permanent and noted the local government would push back against any such plan.
"Its a sad commentary that the house and its inhabitants have to be walled off," she said. "I think thats a sad commentary. We should want the White House opened up for people to be able to access it from all sides."
She stressed that people need access to the capital's public buildings.

Trump needs Rolling Thunder and all patriotic Americans to go to DC Saturday to defend the White House and President Trump. The Left may be planning for an end game overt coup attempt and there are rumors that the military will not deploy even if ordered by the President.

It is the “Peoples house” symbolically but more so the home of the Peoples President and must be defended.

Circa 1801 -- President Thomas Jefferson ordered the construction of a wooden post and rail fence around the White House. By 1808, he had replaced the fence with a stone wall that enclosed the White House Grounds. At the south end of the grounds, a ha-ha wall (a sunken wall that serves as a vertical barrier while providing an uninterrupted view of the landscape) stood to prevent livestock from grazing in the garden. President Jefferson envisioned the South Grounds as a private garden with serpentine walks and a lawn that extended down to Tiber Creek (which runs under present-day Constitution Avenue), edged by a flower border. The North Grounds were to be formal, symmetrical, and open to the public.
1818-1819 -- A new semicircular driveway marked by eight stone piers, an iron fence and gates was built across the North Front of the White House.
1833 -- A long and heavy wrought iron fence was installed along Pennsylvania Avenue on the north side of the White House. Jeffersons stone wall was cut down along this run and served as the foundation for the new fence. This work was integrated into the existing 1818-1819 semicircular fencing.
And so on......
And here's what fences are supposed to stop, although they are not always successful:
On November 1, 1950, two Puerto Rican pro-independence militants, Oscar Collazo and Griselio Torresola, attempted to assassinate President Harry S. Truman. From 1948 to 1952, Truman and his family lived in Blair House, on the north side of Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House, while the executive mansion underwent extensive renovations. At 2 p.m., the would-be assassins walked up to Blair Houses front steps and began shooting. Private Leslie Coffelt, a Secret Service uniformed officer, was mortally wounded but managed to return fire and kill Torresola.
I don’t think they want to attempt to overwhelm the US Secret Service and the National Guard to breach the White House. I’m guessing that the survivors of such an event would be looking at extremely long prison sentences. My recommendation? If you want to get inside the White House, make an appointment and have a rational discussion.
she’s the mayor of a federal district, right? And the President’s duty is to protect federal property, yes? So what’s her problem?
In any city that is being overrun by feral zombies and whose leadership has arbitrary or no curfews on those zombies, the churches should be ringing their church bells all-night-long -all night - in protest
Mop em up one square foot at a time. At the pace and rate the federal police and Secret Service chose to do so. Watch them turn on each other.
Right now POTUS can not trust our Military leadership. I sure hope he is somewhere else on Saturday.
Agreed.
Even before the recent unpleasantness, I’m sure the Secret Service has plans to thoroughly deal with any large-scale incursion onto the White House grounds.
For some reason, after I read your excellent post, I started to think about starting a list of some of the slimy, anti-American creatures who often ooze around in the shadows of DC, and if they were to somehow be gently but firmly removed from DC, would improve that city immensely. Here is just the start of that list. (Feel free to add to the list.)
Jim Acosta
Joe Biden
Dianne Feinstein
Lindsey Graham
Lisa Murkowski
Nancy Pelosi
Gary Peters
Ben Sasse
Adam Schiff
Chuck Schumer
The Squad
Liz Warren
8th & I is just down the street.
695 to 395 to Constitution Avenue, for the Corps probably only about an 8 minute ride, for heavy traffic just use a couple of M-1 Abrams.
If you want to get inside the White House, make an appointment and have a rational discussion.
We are way beyond rational discussion.
Dont you get that?

Mayor Muriel Bowser is part of the insurrection? Or a useful idiot...
Bath House Barry
The WOOKIE
Samantha Power
Valerie Jarrett.
There’s about 2 or 3 hundred that this country would be better off if we used lampposts and rope appropriately.
As I read your comment, I started thinking of Obama's role in this. He had a responsibility, as the first 'black' American President, to help usher in better racial relations, and to use his election as motivation for blacks in America to have high ambitions, and know that they can achieve anything.
Instead, he laid the foundation for more racial division. He bears significant responsibility for what is happening.
Youre right.
The term the peoples house always referred to the US Capitol - the House of Representatives. It was Obama who referred to the White House as the peoples house because, well, hes a communist.
He had a responsibility, as the first ‘black’ American President,
Sure he did. And that is not relevant. He had a goal.
And hes accomplished it beyond his wildest dreams.
Better get ready for whats next.
