If you're talking about Selleck and rumors of the show being canceled, I think I read that his contract was up and he was just waiting to see what CBS was going to do, whether they would offer him one year or multiple years.
Regarding suits and girdles, it looks like he is going for that Teddy Roosevelt look, since Roosevelt was the police commissioner, too, and they have a portrait of Roosevelt in the commissioner's office.

I preferred the Magnum P.I. days.
I don’t watch Blue Bloods, but in his reverse mortgage ads his voice is not the same, sounds like he’s speaking through a bridge or dentures.
