McConnell blocks resolution condemning Trump over treatment of protesters

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday blocked a resolution from Democrats that would have condemned President Trump after rubber bullets and gas were used on peaceful protesters near the White House.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) tried to pass the resolution, which was introduced earlier Tuesday, by unanimous consent, meaning any one senator could block it.

"If a senator objects, they should be asked if they believe Americans do not have the constitutional right to exercise the freedom of speech. ... Do they support the president's use of tear gas against people, including families, who are peacefully protesting in a public park?" Schumer said.

We who demonstrated against clinton’s bombing of Serbia in 1999 were peaceful, respectful protestors. I—and many others—often carried the American Flag at our protests. Oh yes, there were communist groups who tried to “own” the 1999 antiwar protests, but they were far outnumbered by Serbs and other Christians!

Our demonstrations always began with Christian prayers and hymns led by Serbian Orthodox and/or Greek Orthodox priests. The scraggly little communist group usually waited until those were well over before joining the demonstrations. I don’t think that they marched with us either—it was probably too far for them to walk!!

List of Lies:

• Peaceful: No, they were throwing bricks and rocks at US Park Police.
• Protesters: No. "Rioters" or "Mob" are correct descriptions for group violence; "protesters" is not.
• Teargassed: No again. Smoke bombs were used. Major differences. Teargas contains a powerful mucosal tissue irritant, that causes much pain in the eyes, nose, mouth, lungs, etc. Smoke bombs do not. They make you cough. Also, smoke is highly visible so you can see exactly where it is and run from it. Teargas is not nearly so visible.
• Rubber bullets. No. Didn't happen.
• Make room for Trump Photo-op. No. The US Park Police had no idea a PDJT visit to the partly-burned church was about to happen. There's currently a 7pm curfew every night for much (all?) of DC, including Lafayette Park. The Park Police put up portable metal fences / barricades every evening to clear out Lafayette Park and keep it clear. Around 6:30 yesterday they started to put them in place, asking some of the crowd who were in the way to move back. Some in the crowd responded with rocks and bricks. In self-defense, the police lobbed smoke bombs at the part(s) of the crowd that were engaged in violence against them..

So many lies; so little time to combat them all. Sighhhhh!
