“...The spirit of Rizzo still lives in Philly...”
One could only wish it so.
He was one of a kind, as Police Commissioner and as Mayor. At one point, his brother was the Fire Department Commissioner, as well. Here is the original mural of him painted in perhaps the 1990s on the side of a building in the Italian Market. It has often been defaced since then by protesters; but he is still revered and missed by many. I was neither a fan nor a detractor, but can remember him when he was Mayor, going around in the Italian restaurants in that neighborhood shaking hands with all the diners before leaving. Larger than life, with great political skills and very plain spoken.
Philly used to have a "One Percent Rule" (or maybe it was two percent; don't recall) that every new building constructed has to spent 1% on public art. It was responsible for some of the worst public art you have ever seen, as well as some of the best, like the iconic LOVE statue in the center of town:
But when the Jacques Lipschitz statue was installed in front of the Municipal Services Building when Frank Rizzo was Mayor, he commented, "Looks like a bunch of Italian plasterers dropped a load of plaster." The comment made the front pages of the three daily papers.
There was a lot of blowback to his remark. If I recall correctly, he came back with, "That's the taxpayer at the bottom."

Lol
Ridiculous
He was a great guy.
Had his moments, like everyone else does, but Philly loved the guy.
OMG!! They actually used a movie scene for actual news. My God how low can the scum bag news go?
Pretty low. I’m afraid we haven’t seen the bottom yet.
I dont know, but I did read that one of them was immediately fired from their law firm.
Yeah Hombre, Operation Move got bombed by Ratso Rizzo. Same should happen to these antifa punks.
It was Mayor W.(Woodrow) Wilson Goode who dropped the bomb on the MOVE headquarters (in the process destroying 60-some houses and killing 10 or 11 people, including children)
Yeah, one crazy deal it was.
Ratso Rizzo was a homosexual pimp, conman and squatter, played by Dustin Hoffman in a 1969 movie. The polar opposite of Frank Rizzo, former Police Commissioner and Mayor of Philadelphia.
Phila removed the Rizzo statue from in front of City Hall:
Yeah, that was only a matter of time.
It's just that the organized left is aiming for all Founders, including the Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington monuments in DC, Arlington cemetery, etc. They won't stop unless our warrior chieftain can find a way to stop them. So much depends on the elections, where there will be enormous fraud and more probable riots.
