The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday rejected an emergency appeal from a church in California challenging Gov. Gavin Newsoms limits on in-person services due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a 5-4 decision, Chief Justice John Roberts once again joined the high courts liberals in turning down a request by the South Bay United Pentecostal Church in Chula Vista, Calif., near San Diego, which argued that the order limiting in-person attendance at services was a violation of the First Amendments freedom of religion guarantee. The church said in its court filing that 200-300 worshippers normally attend in-person services. Church officials had hoped to get Newsoms restrictions struck down in time for services on Sunday.
In a brief opinion, Roberts claimed that Newsoms order allowing churches to reopen with only 25 percent capacity and no more than 100 worshippers at a time, appear consistent with the First Amendment.
The chief justice added that more extensive limitations apply to movie theaters, sporting events, and concerts where large groups of people gather in close proximity for extended periods of time. However, in a dissent, Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote that the California restriction discriminates against places of worship and in favor of comparable secular businesses.

A huge mistake by bush.
Thanks again to GWB?
He did get Alito right.
You can violate all the social distancing rules by filling the streets protesting and looting....but don’t you DARE think about holding a church service!
George W ( world order) Bush still effing us.
Well, we see where Roberts stands. Huge decision by the court. This opens up the government to start restricting churches for whatever whim they fancy and can convince the court is necessary.

This exactly is why we need to get Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan replaced with conservatives who understand the Constitution (as if it still exists without the amendments of this year). If we have a defector or two on a case, then we’d still win. To get better justices, we need to keep liberals, Democrats, Communists, abortionites, death advocates, baby-killers, idiots, and assorted lunatics outside the Presidency. Therefore, vote Trump; save lives.
When the time comes we need President Trump to appoint a new Supreme Court Justice. Have a suggestion in the mean time...
How about holding multiple services throughout the day. Services by appointment?
Well, in California they have allowed CASINOS to be open for some time already. But churches?? Nope, doesnt fit their narrative. One person on here told me to follow the lobbyist money, but I suspect it goes much deeper than that. One of the tenets of Alinskys brand of Socialism is to destroy religion.
YOU CANNOT FOOL US, ROBERTS!! You are a Globalist. Hopefully Roberts will retire early and Trump can appoint Gorsuch or Kavanaugh as Chief Justice. Sometimes there is no justice in our Supreme Court.
Roberts is also saying that the lockdowns are constitutional.
Do you suppose Roberts would vote as quickly to shut down the riots (NOT “demonstrations”) as he did to shut down the churches? Just whose interests are at stake in each of the two situations, and which does SCOTUS consider more important???
Even if the President wins again, without a Republican Senate of four or five senators to spare because of the liberalism of a half dozen in the ranks no conservative can be confirmed in 2021.
US Constitution Lite.
I wonder if GWB had gotten Harriet Myers (spelling may be incorrect) confirmed, would things have gone differently?
The Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court has demonstrated again that he is a traitor to the United States of America. Henceforth he will be referred to as Traitorroberts.

FCJJR, too. Talk about a TRAITOR.
So roberts violated the bill of rights on at least two parts.
Freedom of assembly and freedom of religion.
