A draft of an executive order President Trump is expected to sign on Thursday would seek to limit the broad legal protection that federal law currently provides social-media and other online platforms, according to people familiar with the draft.
The draft order would make it easier for federal regulators to hold companies such as Twitter and Facebook liable for curbing users speech, for example by suspending their accounts or deleting their posts, the people said.
The draft isnt yet completed and is subject to change, the people said. It comes after Twitter on Tuesday moved for the first time to apply a fact-checking notice to tweets by the president on the subject of voter fraud. Mr. Trump on Tuesday accused the company of stifling free speech and vowed to take action.
The executive order would mark the Trump administrations most aggressive effort to take action against social-media companies, which the president has threatened to do for years. The order would also likely be challenged in court, experts said.

The order changes none of that. The actions of Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter to delete and denounce some content but not others means they are asserting editorial control on the issues of the day and are not common carriers.
The socialist media sites did this to themselves. They can’t have it both ways.
The problem is that Twitter has to explain to a court why they treated Trump differently than some others such as Adam Schiff who keeps promising he has evidence of Trump Russia collusion. Twitter can’t defend itself.
Just watch what this does to the stock prices of these companies tomorrow.
*rubbing hands together in anticipated glee* Couldn’t happen to a better group of totalitarians.
Billions are simply going to disappear at the market open in the morning. It’s going to be a bloodbath! What were they thinking?
“Carlson then turned to the Twitter fact check of Trump, which read in part: “Experts say mail-in ballots are very rarely linked to voter fraud.”
“As a factual matter, that is a lie,” Carlson said. “And there is no other way to interpret it. But worse than a lie, it is a form of political censorship.”
Social media should be held accountable for failure to crack down on incitements to violence, like Ice Cube (of “F*** the Police” fame) spreading a misleading meme of the Minnesota cop next to a pic of a racist felon who is not the cop.
It’s the equivalent of yelling fire in a crowded theater.
They have had it both ways, acting as both platform and publisher, with impunity, for years. And are arrogant and aggressive about it. The best example I know of this is this long form interview:
Joe Rogan Experience #1258 - Jack Dorsey, Vijaya Gadde & Tim Pool
https://youtu.be/DZCBRHOg3PQ
Jack Dorsey is a computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur who is co-founder and CEO of Twitter, and founder and CEO of Square, a mobile payments company. Vijaya Gadde serves as the global lead for legal, policy, and trust and safety at Twitter. Tim Pool is an independent journalist. His work can currently be found at http://timcast.com
********
The arrogance from Dorsey and his witch lawyer just shines through. Pool very much challenges them on the publisher/platform question, and they pretty much ignore it.
BTW, its Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act that brings this to the fore. If Trump issues an EO on this we will be hearing more about it instantly.
Since these big tech companies support the defaming types with donations such as the hired SPLC at Amazon without fact checking them, I suggest the next defamation and terrorism tort suits against such non profits be targeting their source, which is big tech and social media.
Wow, well I guess you’re right. Once again the average person will take the hit.
I hadn’t considered that. Thanks.
But they should be treated as common carriers, like the phone companies. They are more than just information sharing sites.
What were they thinking indeed. It’s astounding that Jack Dorsey went through with this, apparently without thinking through the consequences.
Who is the “fact Checker”?
Ummm, maybe that the First Amendment and the Constitution are infinitely more important than the world's biggest casino?
Sorry, but I am a believer in freedom of choice, private property and capitalism. Facebook and Twitter are private companies and can set whatever rules they want just like JR does here. If you don't like the rule, get the hell out and go to a site more to your liking.
Ya know, there are alternatives to Facebook and Twitter. It is possible to create such sites and treat Liberals the way conservatives are treated there.
Full disclosure: I am on both sites but haven't visited them in years. The last straw for me on Twitter was when I was suspended for 2 weeks for saying "Transgenderism is a mental disorder" This was said in a back and forth in what I thought was a level headed discussion. I was not trolling anyone and certainly did not use profanity. My solution was to say to hell with them and not visit the sites anymore.
“What were they thinking?”
That unlike any GOP president, this one wont put up with their crap.
Dorsey was called to the WH 2X ns Trump always starts nice. You dont know how to play ball with Trump, you’re screwed. It’s in his nature to get what he wants. I’ve read the Art of the Deal back in college, and if they read the book, they would know how to deal with him, but they wont.
