Four Minneapolis police officers were fired Tuesday after the detention and death of 47-year-old George Floyd a scene that unfolded in a Facebook video showing a white officer kneeling on Floyds neck as he pleaded with police, I cant breathe.
Floyd died at Hennepin County Medical Center soon after the incident, which started when police detained him Monday evening on suspicion of trying to pass a fake $20 bill at a convenience store.
The FBI launched an investigation Tuesday, as the Minneapolis Police Department fired the officer as well as three others who were at the scene.
Anger over the death became more visible Tuesday night as protesters marched from where police held the man down at 38th Street and S. Chicago Avenue, heading to the department's 3rd Precinct headquarters. Later, police in riot gear and protesters clashed.
Being black in America should not be a death sentence, a visibly shaken Mayor Jacob Frey said. For five minutes, we watched a white officer press his knee into a black mans neck. Five minutes. When you hear someone calling for help, youre supposed to help. This officer failed in the most basic, human sense.

The question was rhetorical. I know whites didn’t riot and loot.
COVID-19. Too soon?
D-state = default.
Gotta keep the fear going!
“Can’t start fires in the rain. Y’all come back tomorrow.”
Work boots? Next you’ll be telling me they’ll be stealing Father’s day cards.
The reply was rhetorical.
According to the article, this was not an authorized technique.
youre not getting my point. I dont think were supposed to have a national police force. I get that police brutality is bad, etc. but there is no evidence in this case that the death rises to a federal matter or even to a level needing the state police. if it does then all deaths do.
I wonder how many of the protesters have pre-printed protest signs made by revcom.com?
Whoops. That should be revcom.us, as in revolutionary communist.
Wow, are they at the police station?
Not much of a riot in the live feed.
I think the poor guy suffocated from the weight and strength of the officer’s boot pushing down on his neck.
I understand what you’re saying. It was way over the top what they did to this guy though.
Leftists will use it as an excuse for violence. Bad all the way around for everyone.
Release the cop that kneeled on his neck to the mob. It’s about what he deserves.
I am just tired of the police-civilian problems. Police officers need to remember who they work for. WE the taxpayer of all races, pay THEIR salary. We don’t work for them, THEY work for us.
I don’t know but I am tired of comparing scattered incidents. We can’t.
Different people, different circumstances.
Agreed and well said.
Thank you.
Per the Minneapolis StarTribune, the police were (a few hours ago) firing tear gas and ballistic beanbags at the protestors in front of the precinct.
Per the scanner I’m listening to, they’re having problems bear Minnehaha Ave and Lake St. That’s not a good area in daylight.
Rioters throwing rocks at cars and some homeys with paintball guns shooting at people. The police precinct that intersection.
