The first of five Iranian tankers carrying much-needed gasoline and oil derivatives docked in Venezuela on Monday, Caracas announced amid concern in Washington over the burgeoning relationship between countries it sees as international pariahs.
In a statement delivered on state television, Oil Minister Tareck El Aissami said the convoy was an expression of the Venezuelan people's "self-determination" and praised Tehran's friendship at a time of need.

Saw elsewhere that the tankers were carrying oil and “components”
Components to what?
Pretty sad when you have to deliver oil to a country with the largest oil reserves on Earth. Bet it had more than just oil onboard.
Importing oil from the Middle East when you have the largest oil reserves in the Western Hemisphere is the exact opposit of “Self Determination.”
Thereby insinuating that he should have blockaded Iranian ships from entering sovereign Venezuelan waters.
Yup, much ado about nothing
Venezuela is a case study in how bad socialism fails: one of the largest oil producers in the world runs out of gas and needs to call AAA.
Who gives a care. I got enough to worry about here at home.
Wow.
What an unabashed combination of USA bashing and rah-rah Venuzuelan boosterism.
Everything is the fault of the United States.
I thought we were going to stop them?
Stupid attempt at provocation. A tanker full of gasoline is a drop in the bucket but it will keep the elite’s limos on the streets for a while. This is people giving gasoline they can’t sell to people who can’t pay. The Iranians have developed a world-class talent for flushing cash into third-world toilets and getting nothing in return.
The response of the US should be the following....let them unload, and when the debark for their return trip, board and confiscate the ships. Then either auction the ships off, or offload the fuel oil and scuttle them.
They're not carrying OIL. They are carrying REFINED OIL PRODUCTS (gasoline, diesel, and similar) which the Venezuelans can no longer produce for themselves, because they have screwed up their own refineries so badly and driven off the educated class that once ran and maintained them.
Plus fuel for the presidents jet.
Saying the same, check the cargo
If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in five years thered be a shortage of sand.
Kind of makes you wish you had a submarine.. :)
Jet fuel is of the same molecular weight distillation cut as kerosene (heavier than gasoline, lighter than diesel).
We made a 20 percent blend of Light Cycle Oil with N2FO and sold it as railroad diesel.
What made you think that?
I don't recall hearing of even the slightest indication that the United States was going to intervene to prevent this.
