In WA State tab enforcement has been deemphasized by the WSP to the point where expired tabs are being ignored unless they really need a reason to stop (i.e. suspected criminal activity). I haven’t bothered to re-tab one of my infrequently-driven vehicles.

Idaho tracks registration and insurance compliance. The only exception is having sold the vehicle to another party. It bites me hard each year with 8 motorcycles and 2 F150 trucks. I rode ONE bike this year. About 200 miles. My F150 has gone less than 100 miles in 2020. The other F150 gets about 120 miles a week. The registration isn't significant. The insurance is very expensive for the minimal use.
