"Unfortunately this virus hit my son very hard compared to most of his teammates. Here was a kid in perfect health, great physical condition and due to the virus ended up going to the ER because of breathing issues. After 14 days of hell battling the horrible virus, his school did additional testing on all those that were positive. My son even recieved extra tests because he was one of the worst cases.
"Now we are dealing with possible heart issues! He is still experiencing additional symptoms and his blood work is indicating additional problems. Bottom line, even if your sons schools do everything right to protect them, they CANT PROTECT THEM!!
"I pray my son recovers from this horrible virus and can lead a healthy normal life!! Football does not really matter when your childs health is in jeopardy!! Think about it!!! My heart is hurting and I pray for all of these kids and for the people making the decisions about the season!!!
❤️🙏🏻😢Please protect all of those around you and please wear a mask!!! Thank you for listening!! ❤️😘

GREAT!
I think schools are a terrific chokepoint in the war against this virus:
Quick, specific info on it’s prevalence (assuming sufficient testing- especially with the quick, cheap, ‘accurate enough’ antigen tests the FDA is holding up) so that targeted and effective steps can be taken.
Gotta go with the odds. Still, such tales are heartbreaking!
Gee, I wish you hadn’t replied to me privately, but I have to respect that.
All good points.

When a heart gets damage is that for life?
I guess we will find out children can act as super spreaders when Teachers start getting sick in the coming weeks.
Hopefully children are not able to spread the virus, there are a lot of two working parents and single parents out there.
I dont know about for life but some of the studies are showing structural changes to the heart, like the recent German studies:
Their average age was 49 and two-thirds of the patients had recovered at home. More than two months later, infected patients were more likely to have troubling cardiac signs than people in the control group: 78 patients showed structural changes to their hearts, 76 had evidence of a biomarker signaling cardiac injury typically found after a heart attack, and 60 had signs of inflammation.

My takeaway is this... if I had school aged children and had the ability to do so, I would choose the online options or homeschool. We homeschooled our kids anyway, so the idea isnt very foreign to me, but its new territory and tough choices for some folks.
That is the county-wide chart by the way, the students that tested positive were a dozen or so.
TX and headlines
Governor Greg Abbott extended the Disaster Declaration for all Texas counties in response to COVID-19 Saturday afternoon.
The states seven-day average positive rate is 20.43 percent. As of August 8, 275 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized across the Austin MSA. That means 5.31 percent of active cases in the region currently require hospitalization. Of those, 96 are currently in the ICU, and 75 are on a ventilator.
Austin’s Mayor Adler said that as of Sunday morning, Austin’s infectivity rate is between 10 and 15% but that it must be below 5% for the sustained reopening of schools and businesses.
The FBI is still looking for people who were tested for COVID-19 at a healthcare facility in New Braunfels. Authorities have reason to suspect the COVID-19 tests administered at the facility should not have been used to diagnose or rule out an active COVID-19 infection, FBI San Antonio said.

Texas leads country in nursing homes with staff shortages, and the trend is worsening. State to allow limited visitation at nursing homes, long-term care facilities. A Corpus Christi long term care facility has a hugging booth where visitors can hug their loved ones through plastic.
U.S. colleges are requiring promises from students to help contain the coronavirus no keg parties, no long road trips and no outside guests on campus. No kidding. Administrators warn that failure to wear masks, practice social distancing and avoid mass gatherings could bring serious consequences, including getting booted from school. (Yeah, as if.)
