Memorial Day Weekend Corona Virus Thread
Wow!
New 24-day quarantine required for Tennessee families after positive COVID-19 cases
If you or someone in your home tests positive for COVID-19, you can expect some changes if you live in Tennessee.
Tennessee health leaders are now requiring everyone in the house to quarantine for at least 24 days, including those who test negative for the virus.

CDC Director Robert Redfield estimates 30 to 60 million people in the U.S. may have had coronavirus by now. In some areas it’s less than 1% of the population, in other areas it’s up to 20%

A new post-mortem study of patients who have died from COVID-19 found severe damage to the lungs and signs of blood clotting in major organs.
Ten post-mortem examinations performed on patients with confirmed COVID-19 found that all patients had lung injuries and early scarring of the lungs as a result of the virus, as well as injury to their kidneys. Nine patients also had thrombosis - a blood clot- in at least one major organ (heart, lung or kidney). The team were unable to investigate thrombosis in the tenth patient.

T cells not antibodies may be key to long-term COVID-19 immunity. What are they?

If that’s true, howcome some neighborhoods in NYC have 70%+ seropositivity?
Did they not have t-cells?
B Cells: The Antibody Factories of the Immune System
If you already have these memory t-cells, your immune system has a huge advantage over the virus. If you do not, the virus spreads uncontrolled for several days while your immune system gets started. This is actually "normal" for many respiratory viruses, including SARS-1. Here's a research paper from 2018 that discusses memory t-cells being critical to response and immunity in respiratory viruses in general, and how they can provide cross protection from other viruses:
The CD8 T Cell Response to Respiratory Virus Infections
A quote from the conclusion:
...robust memory CD8 T cell responses efficiently reduced lung viral titers in the absence of neutralizing antibodies following RSV, IAV, or SARS secondary infections. An important property of CD8 T cells is that they often recognize conserved viral proteins, allowing for cross-protection between different virus strains.
I was actually being sarcastic.
The idea that ‘herd’ with this virus is 20% seropositivity is a common idea. I just don’t believe that.
Too many places with WAY in excess of that seropositivity...
Whether someone remains immune is another question. let’s hope so...and no ADE for this CV...
Cuomo:
“
Of the 98,880 tests reported yesterday, 709 were positive (0.72% of total). “
New York is wasting a LOT of testing. Laboratories are backed up delaying test results for areas that need timely results.
Black humor from Twitter...
“Part of the screening for Covid is asking you if you’ve been out of the country recently. I guess if you have that means you’re less likely to have it.”
