BOISE, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK)-Idahos May Primary Election may set new turnout records.
The Idaho Secretary of States Office said Idahoans requested 415,500 absentee ballots before the May 19 deadline. It was easily the largest absentee request ever recorded, but may also be the largest voter turnout of any non-gubernatorial primary election in Idaho history.
The absentee request represents almost 46% of the states 907,342 registered voters. Since the ballots havent all been returned yet, it is unknown how many will actually cast ballots. Voters have until 8 p.m. on June 2 to return the ballots by mail.
But the Secretarys Office said it does represent an unprecedented response. The 2016 primary, for example, had a 23% voter turnout and a total of 176,806 ballots cast.
The numbers truly speak for themselves, said Secretary of State Lawerence Denney. Voting is a right Idahoans hold dear and they were not going to let the coronavirus get in their way of participating in the May Primary Election. We want to say thank you to all of the Idahoans who adapted with us through these changing circumstances. We also want to say thank you to all of the election workers across the state who have worked so hard over the last few months to keep Idahoans safe and make it possible for them to vote from home.

This statistic is just another that shows how unnecessary the lockdowns are. The large absentee ballot turnout shows the people of Idaho are concerned about the CCP Flu and will, on their own, take the necessary precautions to avoid being infected. Thus, there’s simply no need for the economy and life destroying lockdowns. Instead concentrate the necessary resources hard on protecting the most vulnerable and the outcome will be far better for everybody.
I sent my ballot in. Im a registered Republican. I asked if I could get more than one absentee ballot. The note I got back was a big NO. Didnt even end with a smiley face. They said Id have to register as a Democrat or be deceased in Chicago.
In certain areas of the country mail is not delivered to a residence but to a post office box holder. Any ballot so addressed should not be allowed because the recipients resident citizenship cannot be proven.Any such ballot not containing the voters residential address should be challenged .
I believe ID has been required to get a PO box for a number of years now. With the lax rules most places, that will be enough to get a ballot.
They should require absentees to actually be absent. Otherwise, go to the polls.
Ive voted absentee a few time here in Idaho. I had to go in to the county office show my id and Mark a ballot. It got sealed and placed in a locked ballot box. All that was to go elk hunting. This year Id have went to the polling location for my district but its in a church and they arent open. I view this all as stupidity. In person with valid ID is a must. IMHO
Anybody can have more than one PO Box number in different locations without living there.
