New figures obtained by RNZ show last year had the highest rates of gun crime and deaths involving firearms for nearly 10 years.

But despite that rise, there has not been a corresponding increase in officers taking out or using their guns.

The figures, obtained from police under the Official Information Act, show the rates of gun crime went up in both 2018 and 2019.

Last year, there were 3540 occasions where an offender was found with a gun.

And in both of the last two years, the rate of deadly incidents involving a firearm was the highest it had been since 2009.

The number of guns seized by police is also on the rise, up almost 50 percent on five years earlier at 1263 last year.

They’ve got that fully crazed half man half woman running the place. No wonder why.

“In each of the last two years, New Zealand recorded 2.4 gun-related deaths per million people.”

The population of New Zealand is about 5 million.

Well, now merely having a gun is a crime, so of course there would be an increase in “gun crimes”.

Jesus, they're all over the map. What's the statistic they're tracing? Offenses involving a gun? Offenders (of any crime, but presumably violent) in possession of a gun? Or "deadly incident involving a firearm" which could conceivably be construed to include suicides.

Same thing here in New Jersey. The number one gun crime is possessing one without permission from the almighty state.

Thanks for that important statistic. The FF Mosque Shooting was in March 2019. The gun confiscation occurred a few months after that. The minuscule Gun-related deaths/million in NZ remained constant from pre- to post-confiscation. Wow, am I surprised!
The PM also noted that the COVID curve flattened good enough to lighten up on the Free Movement restrictions. I saw conflicting statistics on the death count for COVID - ranged from 5-10 or so. NOt sure if their doctors falsify death certificates quite as rampantly as occurs in AMerica, but let’s say they don’t. That works out to 0.0001% to 0.0002% of the NZ Pop died from Covid - probably old geezers like me.
Let’s all move to the SAfe Place Down Under... oh wait, they closed the Gates to Foreigners at last reading, now that Podesta and his fellow criminals got their places secured.
