When a coronavirus vaccine becomes available in the United States, the federal government and states will face a crucial choice: Should all or most residents be required to get the novel coronavirus vaccine?
Or should it be required only for school children, with a medical exception allowed, and for groups like front-line health-care workers? Some officials might want few or no requirements at all because they think enough people are likely to get the vaccine voluntarily or have immunity from an infection to halt the spread of the disease.
But in states like Oklahoma, efforts to require and promote the vaccine could run into strong headwinds.

Now settle down.
The linked piece does not discuss mandatory vaccines, which you imply in your post. That’s an entirely different discussion.
This piece, and my posts on this thread have been taking issue with the anti-vax movement and it’s crazy claims. There is a legitimate conservative critique related to the fetal fibroblasts that are used to create many vaccines, but that, also is not a topic covered by the piece.
When you start replying to arguments not made, or positions not taken, it might be a sign that you’re a little too immersed only in discussion with people who already agree with you. That’s as politely as I can put it.
Thank you, metmom.
It’s supposed to but if you google up shingles vaccine, you will find many accounts of it either not working or having awful side effects.
I have been encouraged to get it but am very reluctant to for a variety of reasons, the biggest of which is my tendency to have allergic type reactions to vaccines, like the kind I get when I get stung by a bee. Not quite full blown anaphylaxis, but a week of shortness of breath and other allergy type symptoms to the point of trying to decide if I need an ER visit or not.
And I hear the Shingrix vaccine has stuff in it to enhance the immune response. Just what I need.
Roll Tide Roll!!
Roll Tide Roll!!
LOL. Good point.
Thank you.
Anyone who was not around for the governments 1975 swine flu vaccine debacle would be wise to research it. This vaccine is being rushed through development by a bunch of people desperate to save face. The odds of bad things happening are quite high.

Well I was here for that, and also for fast-tracked Salk Vaccine of 1955. Cutter Labs produced a bad batch administered to over 200 thousand people.
The mass vaccination program had to be suspended within a month-70Thousand cases of muscle weakness, 164 cases of sever paralysis, 10 deaths. 75% of the paralyzed were that way the rest of their lives. This was more than the average occurance with out vaccine.
And in short order, there was the SV40 contamination which has been associated with certain types of cancer. SV 40 stands for the 40th Simian Virus identified -happens because they use monkey kidneys.
In 1977 Dr. Salk testified in Congress that the oral polio vaccine had caused most of the polio cases in the USA since the early 1960s.
What sort of virus/disease was Polio?
-75% of people would have no symptoms
-1 in 4 would have flu like symptoms for 2-5 days
-1 of 200 would have weakness or paralysis, but many
recovered
-2-10% of the paralyzed died
I was part of the initial 1954 trial. The next year my parents refused to sign the permission slip so I was lucky—every one at my school that got the vaccine that year got sick and threw up all over the place.
Everyone is entitled to informed consent - to know the risks and to know that the vaccine has not been contaminated. They should also be entitled to decline any medical procedure including vaccines(especially new ones) and take their chances.

Fine, but you should also be ready to accept the consequences of your decisions. No vaccine, no insurance for COVID19.

Actually, it’s the liberals who tend to resort to name calling. I’m perfectly fine with your not getting the vaccine and you should be fine with accepting the consequences. No vaccine - no flu insurance.
CrimsonTidegirl wrote: “I have something called an immune system. It fights off everything, especially weak little bugs with a 99.5% survival rate.”
If the virus is such a ‘weak little bug’ then why are you so concern about not having insurance coverage for that?
That’s BS because there’s no proof the vaccine is going to work.
Are you willing to apply that to ANY medical treatment that any doctor recommends for a patient, or only for this virus?
So now health care is forced on us with no say on our part as to what we decide?
Are you for death panels too, because basically, that’s what you are doing. It’s liberal thinking of punishing financially those who disagree with you.
What gives you the right to dictate to me how I live my life?
Why are you on FR? Go back to DU where you belong.
Where did CT even mention insurance coverage?
YOU’RE the one who brought the subject up and is putting words in people’s mouths.
What state are you the governor of?
NY?
PA?
WA?
Take your totalitarian dictates over to DU. They are looking for you.
Different perspective: this virus kills as many as influenza, but we still have that many deaths from influenza though we have a vaccine.
A vaccine won’t matter given that we can’t shut down the wetmarkets causing them AND travel that brings new strains here.
So...
If you are obese, no treatments for heart disease or diabetes?
If you have more than one accident, no auto insurance?
... How about you PROVE that the vaccine can totally prevent the disease, with no long-term health risks first?

No one is talking about forcing you to take a vaccine that hasn’t been tested.
metmom wrote: “So now health care is forced on us with no say on our part as to what we decide?”
Do you think you have the right to endanger your fellow citizens by refusing the vaccine?
BTW, I’ve been on Free Republic much longer than you have.

Typical liberal response.
