Mike Garcia reacted on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday to becoming the first Republican to flip a Democratic House seat in California in more than two decades saying, “There's an awakening here in California.”

Democrat Christy Smith conceded the special election race for California's 25th Congressional District to Garcia on Wednesday, marking the first time Republicans will retake a Democratic-held congressional seat in the state since 1998.

Garcia, a former Navy combat pilot, had a 12-point edge over Smith, a state assemblywoman, as of late Tuesday night in the contest for the swing-district seat vacated by Katie Hill after her resignation.

Pardon me if I don’t get excited. This seat has been republican since the 90s and Katie the Drunk Hill certainly didn’t help the Dems chances... any dem.

She road in on an. Big concerted anti trump national effort that wasn’t there for a special election... she was an anomoly for the district based on at least recent history.

While it’s a nice headline, I don’t see CA suddenly turning red.. this was a district that probably would not have gone blue without thr massive money and organizing in 18 along with some anger over losing salt and mtg deductions and almost certainly ballot harvesting.

2 years later calmer heads prevailed and national efforts weren’t there on the D side.

I’ll believe california is changing if in a presidential or midterm election you see heavy movement red in lots of places in thr state. Not before

All that crime. All those serial killers. If your wife was five minutes late coming back from the market, it was horrible anxiety. There were no cell phones..And they weren’t telling us about half of the killers.

Brown and Rose Bird used crime as population control. The place had horrific gas lines and stupid environmental laws. Somebody here said California has been a shithole since 1962. That’s when Brown’s daddy got elected.

Btw, I noticed that any “bellweather” election talk has disappeared after this.
