Officials at the U.S. Senate said Monday that they do not have the legal authority to release records related to Tara Reade, who alleges presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden sexually assaulted her when she worked for him in the Senate in the early 1990s.
Senate Legal Counsel advises that the Secretary has no discretion to disclose any such information, Secretary of the Senate Julie Adams said in a statement. She cited confidentiality procedures laid out in employment and civil rights laws related to Senate and government employees, as well as a Senate resolution deeming that disclosure of Senate Records is not authorized if prohibited by law.

Huh?
Golly. It’s like the whole structure and purpose of government is to shield and protect government officials who break the law.
If they dig into the Biden records, they will have to dog into all the Senators’ records at some point.
“Senator - Biden released his records - will you release yours?”
Biden is not the only one who needs stuff to remain hidden......
Do we want Biden’s people to have access and do the search? No, I think a senate resolution and supervision is in order. Otherwise evidence will be as available as Jimmy Hoffa.
I wonder if the decision would have been different if Tara Reade rather than Joe Biden had made the request. Or perhaps they should make a joint request, in both cases waiving confidentiality.
That is in effect where we are.
in the end this is a good thing...
1) we want biden to be the nominee.
2) any damaging information would force biden out of the race now- too early
3) without these records this will haunt biden through the campaign.
4) if/when they have the debates i fully expect President Trump to have Tara Reade as one of his guests..
Yes.
Of course Biden and his lawyers knew the Senate rules before they made the request.
What an obvious sham.
Tara went to Harvard and Yale. In the world of 1990s group think she told people about and showed people her letter. Bet on it.she has a copy and knows who helped her write and edit the letter.she is going to go slow and let the left stew.Tara has to get protection from the DNC before she pulls the pin.
Hi.
I didn’t see the word, “subpoena.”
Isn’t this sexual assault case being heard in a court of competent jurisdiction?

That's pretty much a given.
3) without these records this will haunt biden through the campaign.
Without these records and with all the inconsistencies in her story this is probably going to die out pretty quick.
4) if/when they have the debates i fully expect President Trump to have Tara Reade as one of his guests..
The Democrats won't have forgotten the 2016 debates. Put Reade in the front row and she'll be staring at Cassandra Searles, Jessica Drake, Rachel Crooks, Cathy Heller, and all the other women who have filed sexual misconduct claims against Trump over the years. People who live in glass houses and all the rest.
Nope. Allegations only. No criminal complaint was filed.
This is pretty standard stuff... I don’t think any company can release someones HR records, without their consent. without exposing themselves to legal liability...
Person A cannot say release all records on Person B...
Person B could say release my information to the public, but person A cannot authorize the release of someone elses records...
I smell a rat.
Are they saying that a senator, or former Senator, cannot ask for release of his or her own senatorial records??? Are they saying that a senator or former Senator does not have access to their own office records?
Do any of you believe this explanation? If so please explain it to me, because I am confused.
The SENATE and the HOUSE are TOTALLY CORRUPT!!! BOTH SIDES! DISGUSTING!
Besides, Biden sure doesn't want to find these records anyway!
Biden spent enough time in the Senate that he almost certainly knew what the response would be when he requested it.
If the records concern him and her, and they both waive confidentiality, who are they protecting?
Thanks.
