White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx told Fox News on Saturday night that the U.S. significantly underestimated the number of asymptomatic cases that existed of the coronavirus.
“I think we’re learning every day about the virus and how it interacts with us as human hosts. And that’s been very important to constantly be triangulating data,” Birx said. “I think we underestimated very early on the number of asymptomatic cases. And I think we’re really beginning to understand there are people that get infected that those symptoms are so low-grade that they don’t even know that they’re infected.”

Because there is no real herd immunity for this disease, it only applies to vaccination practice. The nature of COVID-19 is such that the long incubation period and having the disease without symptoms both, together, make it next to impossible to know when there are sufficient numbers in the population who are immune.
Notice she didn’t say there is no such thing theoretically with COVID-19. Of course there could be. That is why she phrased it the way she did, as “we talk about it only in terms of vaccinations,” or something like that. The term doesn’t apply practicably, to COVID, although in theory there could someday be something like herd immunity. But because of the virus’s wily personality, only through vaccine, not through just letting it rip—without unacceptable consequences to our nation.
It’s notable that Sweden is getting rid of practically all of its older “vulnerable” population by just letting it rip with almost no mitigation. One of the first things Pence said, as leader of the Task Force, is that we are NOT going to let that happen. We are unsurpassibly fortunate to have him in charge of this effort. He knew one of the alternatives was letting it rip and that as Americans we could not allow that to happen, to just sacrifice our older people. He didn’t go into the details because he’s not an idiot, but he certainly knew what would happen if we took that course.
Correct. And that is an unfortunate policy decision that had to be made to prevent the hoarding and the rush by the uninfected that occurred when Trump first mentioned the drug combination, and that policy is still in effect.
If you remember, it took emergency proclamations by our government to keep the supply from being totally exhausted by the rich and powerful. I believe it is now being used as a prophylactic, or very early remedy, among the members of our government. Somebody slipped and said “we all got the vaccine,” which probably meant that drug combination.

Baloney!!! We have no idea if there’s herd immunity or not because we are testing for the virus, not the antibody to it. Testing for antibodies is much more reliable because it remains well after the virus is gone. If there’s no natural herd immunity, how can a vaccine create it? Do you even know what a vaccine is supposed to do?
I recommend you stop repeating propaganda that you believe makes you sound knowledgeable when you actually have no idea what you’re talking about.
By asymptomatic is meant, the vast majority of cases because COVID-19 by itself appears to not be particularly serious, or even noticeable.

My understanding is that that is the level of expenditure already authorized by Congress to address some of the damage done by locking down the nation. Did it help? How many millions spent per life saved?
I'm on Medicare. My hospital bills have already exceeded a million dollars. I'm grateful, but I would never vote to spend money that way. It's unsustainable and the system will break.
Common cold type coronavirus is embecovirus. SARS, MERS, and SARS-CoV-2 are sarbecovirus. I fully realize these distictions might be entirely too technical for you.
And it’s the rare cold that takes out major organs of the body and causes clotting that even anticoagulants can’t stop.
The antibody test is to test for immunity. No other test can test that. And that may not even be a sure indication of immunity.
