Texas park ranger asking people to comply with social distancing is pushed into lake; suspect arrested

A Texas park ranger cautioned a group about coronavirus social distancing - only to get pushed into a lake. A recording of the incident shows the Commons Ford Metropolitan Park ranger asking a group gathered on the docks of Lake Austin to “disperse” because people were not standing six feet apart. The group was unlawfully drinking and smoking in the public park, as well. Just after someone tells the ranger “I got you,” a man runs up and pushes the ranger into the water. The man fell in as well, but he managed to climb out first and flee. Brandon Hicks, 25, was identified by a number of witnesses as the man who pushed the ranger. Hicks was arrested and charged with attempted assault on a public servant – a state felony – and damaging the ranger’s emergency radio, according to court documents seen by FOX 7. Officials say the "intentional and reckless action" by Hicks could have caused the park ranger to hit his head as he fell, becoming unconscious in water deep enough for him to drown. Hicks was in jail Friday with bail set at $7,500. Austin police officer Justin Berry, who arrested Hicks, told the Statesman that people were quick to help the ranger and identify Hicks as the assailant. “The patrons of the park actually came to the aid of the park ranger,” Berry said. “Several people came up to the ranger and apologized for the guy’s behavior. That’s the Austin we know, and that’s the Austin we love.”

After reading the rest of the responses I realized you were not being sarcastic. I suppose breaking the law is not the right response but isn’t the whole lock down thing breaking the law by depriving us of our rights in so many cases?

What the kid did may be considered an act of civil disobedience.

I’m an old guy myself but thankfully have no current health issues at all. The last time I caught the flu or for that matter a cold was back in the early 70’s and it knocked me on my ass but good. I was on my back in bed for 3 days but recovered and have not been sick since.

I’m in SC so we have been barely touched by this thing with under 300 said to have died from it. Our lifestyle has barely changed. I can’t get a haircut but that’s about it.

Keep truckin’

He was a park ranger doing his job. He should get pushed in a lake? How many alleged conservatives are this close to joining antifa?

Doesn't his job include an oath to uphold the constitution of the US?

Was he really doing that when he was pushed in the lake?

I want to kick his teeth across the room.

This is the type of trash that needs to be taken out as the left says those who protest are Trump supporters.

No, I posted the story on Facebook and added ‘Yea, Texas” and I was viciously attacked by a guy who ended up ‘unfriending’ me. The story was funny; no one was hurt but it was a reflection of how people are fed up with petty bureaucrats siccing the police on law-abiding citizens, and it will just get worse if this lockdown continues.

I believe the comment I responded to was:

I want the ranger to be thrown into water repeatedly when he is off duty.

If I'm not mistaken, that would be considered assault and vigilantism. And you're OK with that? Apparently so are other Stormfronters here....

So how would YOU respond if you were the off duty officer?

As I've stated before ad nauseum, if you have a problem with an officer performing his duty, you take it to his superiors, you don't become a vigilante force and go after him when he is off duty............

And based on the idiotic comments here, including yours, who is the real nut?

>>>.... punishment should fit the crime. A big difference between tackling /breaking someone’s ribs and pushing someone into the water and getting their radio wet<<<

So, the Guy wo blindsided and assaulted the guy knew that he would only get him wet and ruin this Radio? Who was the attacker, The Amazing Kreskin?

Gee Officer, I didn’t mean to shoot and kill him, I was aiming at his Radio.

I didn’t realize so many people here would so easily want to physically attack someone who wasn’t threatening them with violence. If we ever have another FReeper Convention I’ll have to mind my P’s and Q’s.

Now on to the next Post attacking my Opinion. The ones calling me names are especially entertaining.

“Just to be clear. I am one of those People who could be susceptible to the Kung Flu. I nearly died of Pneumonia about five years at age 62 after my last round of Chemotherapy to treat my Leukemia.”

You have the right to stay home. I will defend your right.

Would you like to see new developments for the fight against cancer? How does research like that get funded?

Ironic that the society that has advanced that type of research through hard work and sacrifice to build prosperity is the same one you wish to suppress.

You and many others are making a gross error if you think putting me on house arrest or violating my civil liberties and rights is going to end well.

I can’t believe how weak minded and devoid of history folks like you are in light of what dictators and communists of the past have tried like “essential” and non-essential assignments to HUMAN BEINGS.

I think I may have had the Kung Flu back in January. I was sick for two weeks and my reminded me that I had a consistent dry cough.

This whole thing is nuts and getting nuttier everyday. I just hope it doesn’t hand the Country over to the Rats in November.

f they regain power, it will make the Kung Flu look like a 24 Hour Bug.

Am I a bad person because I laughed at that headline? ;)

Count me in. I picture an officious Barney Fife type lecturing the crowd, then splash, he goes into the lake.

Nothing I have Posted has any relation to what you just stated. I was commenting on the Moron who blindsided and physically attacked the Ranger which is now being justified by a lot of Posters, which I find quite interesting.

How you just went from my OP to these ridiculous assertions of what you think I believe is a thing to behold.

Were you a Fan of the guy who attacked Senator Rand Paul?

Nice straw man you got there.

Kind of like the term “near miss”:

[WHAM! CRUNCH!] “Look, they nearly missed!”
“Yes, but not quite!”

***
I remember George Carlin using the example of two planes that nearly collided in mid-air. “Why do people call that a near miss? ... it’s a near hit! LOL

What analogy you would prefer, it fine and dandy to act like Antifa by blindsiding and physically attacking someone who is not threatening physical violence against you?

As I stated before, if this is how people want to react quit wasting time attacking a Park Ranger and go throw the Governor of Texas into the Lake.

I guess I’m just the Baby Ruth in the Swimming Pool today, oh well.
