A NURSING home in New York begged officials to move their coronavirus patients to the Jacob Javits Convention Center or the USNS Comfort — but was denied.
Donny Tuchman, the CEO of Cobble Hill Health Center in Brooklyn, sent an email to the city health officials on April 9 pleading for help for his residents, 55 of whom the city says have died from the virus.
“We don’t have the ability to cohort right now based on staffing and we really want to protect our other patients,” Tuchman wrote in an email, according to the New York Post.
In another email, Tuchman wrote: “I’ll be darned if I’m not going to do everything in my power to protect them.”
Tuchman asked if there was “a way for us to send our suspected covid patients” to the convention center, which has been made into a temporary hospital.
He also asked if it was possible to move his residents to the USNS Comfort, a Navy hospital ship that’s been docked on Manhattan’s West Side.
The ship was initially intended to help hospitals treat non-coronavirus patients, but was reconfigured to treat COVID-19.
Tuchman, according to the Post, was denied any transfer of his residents to either location.
He said he “was told those facilities were only for hospitals” to send their overflow patients.
When Tuchman begged to move his at-risk residents, the news outlet reports that just 134 of the 1,000 beds at the convention center were in use.
And the Comfort had just 62 patients aboard — when it was able to accommodate 500.
The ship ended up treating a total of 179 patients, and on Tuesday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the Comfort would be leaving the Empire State because it wasn’t needed anymore.

The Jacob Javits Field Hospital was built for 2,500 beds.
Cobble Hill, the 360-bed facility in an upscale section of Brooklyn, has become another massive example of the country’s struggle to control the spread of the coronavirus in nursing homes.
The facility has been overwhelmed and unequipped to deal with its coronavirus outbreak, with shortages of staff, personal protective equipment and the availability of reliable testing.
How much money per death did Coomo get?
Books will be written about this. And it would appear a snowstorm of law suits.
Cuomo, the governor, should be hung. This is horrible!
I want to know WHO denied the transfers..my bet it was Cuomo, he runs the roost in NY, what kind of sick bastard sends people who are already infected with a virus, back to a nursing home to infect other people..gee ya think this would be a massive scandal but the commie media wont touch it..truth is, Cuomo needed more people on ventilators so the state would make 35 grand for each ventilation

Let’s hope this dooms any presidential aspirations that Cuomo might have had.
You look at Trump’s leadership on this and you will find NOTHING like this horrendous decision by Cuomo.
We should never be surprised when leftists act against America and human lives.
They KNOW they are at war against all America stands for.

I think of this as a trial run or practice for the “big one”. We need to learn as much as we can so when some really awful epidemic comes, we can meet the challenge competently.
I want to know also. That would be big news, no matter who did it. But I think this blood is on Cuomo's hands as well.

I remember when the NY governor refused help from southern emergency electrical crews to help get electrical service back on after the ice storms. NY residents remained without electrical service for weeks and months while the neighboring states were all back on. All because the helping crews were non-union. NY government is pathetic...talk about ideologues.

Q’s: Did the director go over the state’s head, call the Feds? If so, what happened? If not, why the heck not?
Director, why do people like you wait for some bureaucrat, city, county, state, Fed, to tell you what to do? Whether it’s stockpiling your own PPE for personnel and residents, or not waiting to close the doors to visitors and doing that the moment this bug showed up on the west coast.
In the immortal words of Rear Adm Grace Hopper, sometimes it’s better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.
Keep that in mind the next time you wait for some arm of the nanny state to save your butts. You and yours aren’t even a blip on their sodding radar screen.
