India is four times more populous than the US, but has just 2% the number of cases and only 1.5% of the number of Covid-19 deaths. How has the country, whose per capita income is just tenth of the US, avoided being flattened by the pandemic?
There are four possible explanations:
1. The epidemic may have struck later than in other countries. Since epidemics have exponential growth at the start, a small delay can have massive effects on the number of cases.
2. Indias 21-day lockdown may have successfully suppressed the epidemic. Physical distancing is one of the best ways to slow the epidemic and, if anything, many have criticized the lockdown for being too draconian in that regard.
3. India has not been able to test enough to count all cases and deaths. Without sufficient testing, many deaths may not be labeled with Covid-19 for official statistics, leading to an underestimation of the severity of the crisis.
4. India may have protective characteristics against Covid-19. Researchers have proposed that the low share of elderly in the population, the high temperatures and humidity in India, widespread BCG vaccination for tuberculosis, or resistance to malaria have helped India escape the brunt of the pandemic.
First, we can rule out that India is in an early stage of the pandemic. The first infected travelers from Wuhan reached Kerala, southwest India, on January 29. While it is true that Kerala acted quickly and contained a potential outbreak, more carriers reached other states by early March.

Winner winner, chicken dinner.
Morons in the media. Lies by omission
Pardon me, but the article did not mention HCQ. .....only "resistance to malaria."
Guess why.....because HCQ provided that resistance.
Such scum...they'd rather people die than give DjT credit. Despicable scum.
I vote for option 4.
(1) Because they have no testing. (If we are short on kids here you can imagine how many India has)
(2) Because thousands of people die every day in India and they cremate them ASAP so the real cause of death is not known.
(3) Because India can’t afford to shut down it’s economy (millions would starve) so better to take a small hit with increased deaths.
(4) Because the virus did not hit India until much later than the USA and Europe - you don’t see many Indians on the ski slopes.
One of the measures of a countrys healthcare system is, How endemic is Tetanus in your country? If the answer is yes that means your countrys healthcare system is essentially Stone Age. So expect Infant Mortality to follow and guess what? It DOES. Isnt that interesting? I would think twice about citing anything from India.
“Why does India, with over a billion people, have so few Covid-19 cases and deaths?”
This is a third world country. Their government is only concerned with two things:
Their own power and protecting the cows.
Just because they finally got around to starting a count somewhere other than one street in New Delhi doesn’t mean that the count is worth anything. For all they know, or care about, half the population could be sick and dying. Just don’t harm the cows.

Because of Malaria!! Most if not all get the Malaria drug.. Hydroxychloroquine!
One word: Turmeric!
Do you have a source for that? That would be about a billion doses a day. Thats a lot of pills.
Correct o mundo. One a my friends a Miss India beauty queen in NYC had the corona virus a month ago. She took turmeric and hot peppers every morning. After 3” weeks she is ok Thank god.

That is SO 37A.
This is actually hilarious. If you want to know what a Black Hole of Demand is you need look no farther than India and healthcare. ROTFLMAO.
You can buy hydroxycloroquine off the shelf?
For instance, that countries with BCG vaccination appear so far to have less transmission, these countries are also warmer, have younger populations.
That sounds reasonable to me so many factors guess we just have to wait until all the data is in.
Because they routinely take Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine; both cures for COVID19 and preventatives (at least in the case of hydroxychloroquine).
What is this isolation going to do to the herd immunity for the next flu season?
Because they don’t pay their hospitals to declare the cause of death as “COVID-19”
Very glad we are discussing this.
And I (very) agree with the posts mentioning Hydroxychloroquine and Turmeric.
It is high time we talked about the whys, of India’s extremely low rate of infection.
Overdue, frankly, by about a MONTH.
Lack of proper reporting, like their fellow billion plus population pal, Red China. They both have plenty to sacrifice.
