Florida strip clubs sue over dancers age requirements being raised from 18 to 21...

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Adult clubs in one Florida city are suing over a new law that raised the minimum age for strippers from 18 to 21.

The law in Jacksonville was enacted March 5 in a bid to reduce human trafficking. But lawyers for the clubs, including the lead plaintiff Wacko’s, contend in a federal lawsuit that it violates the First Amendment by restricting the ability of performers to dance.

“The Constitution does not permit the deprivation of First Amendment rights based on the age of … citizens who have attained the age of 18,” attorneys Gary Edinger and James Benjamin argue in a complaint filed in the names of 13 businesses and four dancers, two of them under age 21.

The Florida Times-Union reported that after the law was signed, the clubs were prevented from using close to 100 dancers under age 21 during a two-week period, according to the lawsuit.

The 140-page suit notes that people under 21 can hold any other job at those businesses, even own the clubs.

Sounds like hazardous duty?

But somebody has to do it.

Most in USA don’t allow fully nude, and I’ve been in quite a few.

Haven't been to one of these clubs in over a decade but the rule back then in many places (including Jacksonville) was full nude if no alcohol was served. They were called "juice" bars. Denver had a full-nude club next to a bar, both owned by the same person. You could come and go between the two but they were technically two different establishments. Alcohol was allowed in topless clubs only.

Go to South Florida and booze is allowed in fully nude clubs.

I’m sorry, but the founders never intended to interpret taking your clothes off for entertainment as a First Amendment right.

“18 should be the universal adult age for everything.”

Not for strip club work or work in abortion clinics.

Either 18 or 21.

Pick one.

If it’s 18, then the drinking age and everything else should be open to them.

If it’s 21 then the 26th amendment needs to be repealed and the selective service law needs to be amended to 21.

I blame MADD for all of the age restrictions on everything currently in place.

Ah yes Ludes. I know a few people who partied themselves right into a box doing the 714. That being said I was living in West Virginia around 1980 and had a blast with those gals out that way. Good memories.
